Hi,
Do you think this is too much mileage for an engine? Seems like it has a good service history and it's motorway miles (apparently). It comes in the form of a 2005 MK5 Golf.
provided its been properly cared for 140 is nothing to worry about, does it smoke when its cold? has the turbo ever been rebuilt?Do you think this is too much mileage for an engine? They have turbo problems around 100k, aside from that should be fine.
We hardly run our cars in this country, every car Ive owned abroad has had more than 200k miles on the clock, some over 300k miles. The engines will go quite happily as long as you're prepared to put up with servicing costs. Things like clutches, starter motors etc all will need doing at some point, but once done will last another hundred thousand miles or so.

You can't cast a view on an engines future life by todays mileage on the dash. So many things affect its health.
I have a VAG 1.6tdi unit in a from new 11 plate ibiza and at 26,000 miles in 18 months just about everything on the engine has been replaced. Add to that the gearbox at 17,000.

I run a 1.9tdi 2004 passat as a commuter car.
160k on the clock and climbing be 135 miles daily. No problems. Like most cars, look after it well and it should look after you.
Make sure you get it cheap. I love the uk and its weird aversion to anything over 100k on the clock. Bargain hunters dream!

Last one i had i took from 82 up to 140, buddy has a passat estate that he bought as an ex lease at 150k i think its over 200 now.
Its not a subtle engine, loud and laggy but strong as an Ox. Turbo rebuilt at 1-120k miles £500, cambelt every 60 £400 on an A4, will run Bio diesel a treat (early 110BHP's will run straight veg), I could get over 64MPG on the computer in the A4 on a run

How about the VAG 140bhp 2.0 TDI? (from an '07 Leon if that helps).
I've got 155k on a Passat with that engine. Was a paragon of virtue until 130k, since then we've needed new gearbox cables (more expensive than you think), rebuilt front brake calipers, and a new turbo. The rest of the car is completely fine (literally everything works exactly as new) and I've no doubt it'll get to 200k+, probably with little else needing spending.
