Spurned on by Major Fallouts Chimp boot debacle i thought i'd try something that worked well on another forum i use.
This is your place to come and cleanse yourself of any car related spectacular failures. A problem shared is a problem halved
2 from me.
1st one i couldn't get the steering wheel off on my old 205GTi. It was majorly stuck on the spindles. Removed the nut (1st mistake) and pulled. No joy. Then i put both feet on the dash and pulled again (2nd mistake) and guess what..it came off. Straight into my face and broke my nose. That feeling of stupidity totally surpassed the pain.
2nd one, plumbing up the Idle Speed Control Valve on my old car, V6 into Mr2 swap, mixed up the air and coolant pipes and wondered why the system was taking so much coolant to fill. About 3.0L too much in fact.
So on you go, confess away and let's hear your tales of woe.

Finished putting the head back on my car the other day, 30 minutes later I was driving up to the petrol station when I heard a plink and the engine died. Pulled up, looked under the bonnet and realised I'd not torqued up the pulley for the inlet cam properly, only nipped it up during fitting and threadlocked ready for proper tightening.
Oops.
Oops.
Earlier in the year pulling up to my house after work on a scorching hot day I parked up as normal and went it to get changed then came back out to go to the gym.
As I went to get back in the car I noticed a puddle infront of the wheel and could see something dripping down. Que the bonet getting raised and checking for anything leaking/low fluids, on my back looking under the car scratching my brains to try and find out what it is, I call a friend who is a mechanic to have a look over and all appears fine - car starts fine, no lights lots of brain racking etc.
Anyway I set off and on my way to the gym I remembered I used the jet wash to clean the screen as I pulled up and parked.
Cock.

Got back off holiday, freezing cold & the battery on the OHs Galaxy was flat.
No problem, jump start it off of my Mk5 Golf GTi, dug my crappy jump leads out & off we go.
Still won't start, smells very warm though. Oh bugger, not paying attention I've only gone & connected + to -
Very, very luckily it 'only' burnt through part of the loom on the Galaxy, cost £100 for local garage to repair & no damage to my Golf!

Did that on my old Alfa 156... wouldn't start one night, so hooked it up to my wifes TT and crossed the leads in the dark... fried the ECU and cost my company £1,000.No problem, jump start it off of my Mk5 Golf GTi, dug my crappy jump leads out & off we go.
