A few weeks ago I had a break out on certain parts of my body. along my upper arms, arm pits and lower stomach.

It became very red and sore and more grating as the days went on. It got to the point that due to the constant urge of scratching I was getting less and less sleep.

I went to my local GP after trying the normal creams such as E45 had little effect. He prescribed me a dose of Prednisolone to get on top off the rash and also some double base cream.

Initially within the first few days the itching subsided but after a few more days its come back worse. every time I tried to use the cream it just made the itching worse so I've stopped using it now. The itching gets to such an unbearable point that I have to scratch it to the point I almost start to bleed.

I have had no change to my diet, washing or cleaning products and everything environmental to myself has also not changed. Does anyone have any tips that can help me get on top off this?

I'm away with work all this week but will be going to my GP next week when I return home. I dont want to go to the hospital as I don't want to waste any of there time If there's something I can use myself in the mean time.

Any ideas?

STOP SCRATCHING.

I know it's difficult (believe me, I really know) but if you scratch you will actually irritate it more.

Go to a pharmacy and ask for some hydrocortisone, it should be available over the counter and may bring it back under control.

Also ask if they sell Aqueous cream over the counter (Lloyds chemist have it on their normal shelves next to the E45), use that as a soap substitute until you can see the doctor.

As for causes, it's possible you've just developed an allergy to something you were fine with originally. Considering how wide-spread it sounds I'd guess it's either soap, or your laundry detergent. Eczema can also be triggered by stress, have you been feeling particuarly under pressure recently?

Also, stop scratching!

Try putting a bag of frozen food on the affected areas to stop the itching. Itchy skin can also be a sign of liver problems.

many thanks for those I will go in and see if I can get some of those tomorrow. Stress yes from women. I also believe the whole thing started when I wore a new work shirt that I hadnt washed before wearing. I have always used non Bio tablets and think the shirt may have been the original cause.

The problem I now face is 2 fold, 1 getting on top of the irritation. I have cut my finger nails right down to stop and itching that is done from being worse. and 2 finding out that If I have become allergic to something all of a sudden then what the hell that is!!

Ive tried most over the counter creams and prescribed creams and so far the most effective one has been prescribed Diprobse. Its very thick and very oily but works really well.

I have posted this before on here and have first hand experience of using it myself and can vouch for how good it is.

Read the how we started link aswell. If you do use it beware that it stains things very easily.

Cortisone will do it.
Doctors don't like prescribing it these days as it can thin skin if used on face.
Years back they would dish it out.
Cheaper to buy over the counter anyway.

I had the same issues with Psoriasys.

Was horrid and the creams didn't work.

Best thing i found was hemp body butter from Body Shop, very thick moisturiser, cools it, stops the itching and obviously stops it cracking.

Cold weather and bad diet seemed to cause the most issues for me. Too much bacon/ham was a big factor.
