Rover Metro GSI

Just picked up my new Shed today.. Its a 1998 Rover Metro GSI MPI
Its got 78k on the clock and it seems that the Hydrogas units have been freshly re-charged! Brilliant

Came with 5-mths MOT and 3mths Tax .. RESULT!






Notes on the drive home.

Seemed to pull well, steering felt tight and direct, and the suspension feels ... strange! bouncy.. firm.. and supple all at the same time lol

Clutch pedal rides a little high for my tastes.. so ill have to adjust that at some point.

and finally.. the pedals i seem to be able to mash all 3 of them no matter how careful i am lol, they're sooo close together!!

im going to enjoy this car

Its a 1.4 single cam with remote central locking and electric windows

set me back £250 and im happy with that, as I can write most of that off in my mind against the remaining value of the tax disk and the fact it has new hydro-gas nipples fitted along with the fresh charge of Gas

First hydrogas car i had, i stuck an airline on the fill nipples to 'pump' up the suspension

ive already started reading up on the citroen activa suspension system and trying to think how I would go about implementing a similar system lol

Haha! Citroens are Hydropneumatic ( high-pressure oil/gas), not Hydrogas or Hydroelastic. They're all different.

It would be insanely difficult to do. And pointless.

But kudos for the Metro/100. They're a right barrel of laughs!

ahh well still, it rides better than i expected didnt realise they had tiny little 13" wheels lol, its like a pram

Its got a bit of rust, and seems very solid, compared to examples of pre-facelift models ive seen that were more rust than metal, held together with the glue used to put the windows in

I also looked at a ford KA before getting this one.. now THAT was a serious rotbox!!!!

I always rather liked these. Worked at a garage and we had two during that time. They were better to drive than the Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Ford competition. Sprightly engine, good gearchange, feelsome steering, and decent turn in and feel too. Bit of a shock because you get prejudiced by the image and by what people tell you. This was before we reached stage that literally all acceptable cars must be German. :]
