I have been taking St Johns Wort for many years with great success. Just bought my last batch from Holland and Barratt to discover that now it has been acknowledged (THR) the price has increased, (£39.55 for 100), but the quantity and percentage of Hypericom contained has been reduced. So I have been trawling the net for a cheaper supplier. But.... I don't understand the conversions.

One says;- 284mg of St Johns Wort which contains Hypericum perforatum equivilant to 1422mg-1991mg of St Johns Wort.

While another says;- 330mg of St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) extract is standardised to provide a guaranteed 1000µg of hypericin.

Hope someone understands this.

I'll have a crack.

For the 1st product it doesn't appear possible to determine the dosage of Hypericum perforatum from the description

For the 2nd product it is telling you that 0.330g of the product contains 0.001g of hypericin, the active ingredient. This is about 0.30% by weight



According the wikipedia

"...used doses of 300 mg of an extract (standardized to 0.3 percent hypericin content)..."

I think the 1st product you have listed is perhaps making some sort of claim that it is 5-7 time stronger than the "regular product" 284 x5 =1,420 & x7 is 1,988

Is there any more info on the packaging?

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately there is no more info on the packaging, I am thinking the suppliers want to confuse the issues. Bad really as it puts you in a position that you have to pay the price for peace of mind. I think I may have to have a little trial and error and carefully monitor any new tablets. My family will soon let me know if the dosage is wrong.
