Hey I'm looking at buying a roll bar for my mk2 mx5 and was wondering weather this roll bar below would allow the roof to be raised and lowed or woulda it make the roof redundant ? Thanks

That looks like a T R Lane bar.

Yep, they're made to work with a glass window too.

If you read on the page you got that picture from it says:

I have that very roll bar in mine and can assure you that there is no issue with the roof. When the plastic is unzipped, it fits nicely between the rear stays without any creasing whatsoever.

Dunno about the glass screen, but it stands to reason that would fit too...

Hey, why don't you buy direct from T R Lane, could be cheaper? Called them today (Tim?) about fitting one onto
My car, the guy couldn't have been nicer or more helpful...

As if a statement from the manufacturer wasn't enough... I've got one of these TR Lane rollbars fitted and my soft-top with glass rear screen works absolutely fine.

Will you use it without a helmet though? That's very dangerous. It's stopped me from getting one fitted, which in turn has stopped me going on track.

Really? You are far more likely to turn it over on the road than on track!

It is true that in a car with roll bars you do increase your chance of injury from hitting your head on the bars but you are also reducing the chance of injury in a roll. I don't see that it makes it any more dangerous.

As Lassa said
I'm yet to see a mx5 roll over on a track day, Yes I've seen it happen in a race but NOT on a track day
And I do quite a lot of them...................

This is the same thought process i'm going through - don't really fancy a track day in a soft top unless there is a roll bar...however i'm also hearing that you would need bucket seats / harness too otherwise in a roll the seat belt won't do much...

The roll bar linked above looks good though?

Seriously - don't worry about roll bars, bucket seats & harnesses on track unless you are racing. We have them on our track car but my own car which I take on the track all the time (I'll be at Brands on 7th Dec) only has Hard Dog Deuce roll bars (which are a bit short to be considered track roll bars), no buckets and no harnesses. It's absolutely fine on track like that.

I would say it's true though that you shouldn't have harnesses unless you have roll bars though.
