Called in to my favourite "Remove it yourself" Scrapyard today which I first visited as a small schoolboy with my father back in the 1950s. Things are very different today.
Needing some bits from underneath a Rover 600 Diesel, there was a time when they allowed you to jack the cars up yourself and crawl underneath. Something I never liked doing for obvious reasons.
With modern day H and S in mind, they now longer allow you to do that. Instead, if you ask politely, they will put the car on a specially made strong metal frame allowing ample and the all important safe clearance under the car. I got the few parts safely from that car in a fraction of the time it would normally take.
