it was mega rough, it looked pretty sorry for its self in the catalogue photos, but even worse in real life.

it looked as if it had been left outside with the windows open for about ten years.

a fantastic looking car, but its going to bankrupt someone to restore.

That's what I was afraid of. I was bidding on it blind as I hadn't been able to view it in person, although Sholto had given me a pretty good description of its condition - apparently it'd been left outside under a tarpaulin and hadn't been started for five years. Hence I wasn't prepared to go anywhere near as high as it eventually sold for because I couldn't see how it was feasible to restore it without losing money. I presume therefore, that'll be used as a donor car for a recreation. frown

Considering that many of the other cars only just made their reserves or didn't sell, its price did seem out of kilter with the rest of the market. As I've seen similar wrecks (particularly 250 GTEs) at other auctions go the same way, that would fit with what I've been told about someone currently being in the process of creating ten such recreations. It's a pity as I had hoped to 'save' such a car, however I'm not prepared to pay over the odds to do so. Oh well, I'll have to look for something else, maybe something rarer that's too valuable for someone to consider cannibalising. scratchchin
