bloody buggery cat
Discussion
Well Bob's done it again, this time he bunked out of a first floor window and has gone awol on the farm again. I hope with all my heart that as we'd got so far with him in the last 6 weeks, he'll make an appearance when he's hungry. But he still doesn't know how to use the catflap, so we'll be redeploying the trap and hope we dont catch our other one instead.
Wish us luck, folks

Maybe it's an oriental thing... some neighbours have an Abyssinian that climbs things but can't get down. One night he climbed onto the roof of another house and was stuck... occupants complained that all night there was a loud miaowing sound and they couldn't work out where it was coming from! We had to rescue him the next day with a ladder. Idiot cat.
Hi
No luck overnight, I'm hoping he's gone back up to the hangar where we caught him last time.
His story is that we rescued him from a cat-hoarder. He'd never been outside. We first got him in July, but he escaped after a week and we didn't get him back till the end of September. We'd been doing really well in the last 6 weeks, but have had new windows fitted this week - while he wasn't particularly bothered about the gaping holes in the ground floor of the house, he took the opportunity yesterday to bunk out of the first floor window onto the scaffolding, and away.
I think it's curiosity more than anything. We always intended to let him out, but felt he wasn't really ready yet, as he won't yet come to us when called. Banging the dinner bowls and shaking the bikkits didn't work last night.
It's breaking my heart. He came back to us last time a scrawny little waif and it took me so long to get him to trust us. I can't bear the thought of him being out in the winter, and if we have to start all over again if and when we get him back. But if we do, he'll be getting a GPS collar. We've 1000 acres of woods around us - we're never going to find him but just looking.

Thanks for asking.
No. nothing yet. The trap is up at the hanger where we caught him last time, but he could be bloody anywhere.
We're out every morning and evening calling and whistling, to no avail. Will keep trying. Hopefully someone will catch sight of him soon and at least give us a vague idea which direction to search.

Yep, our Bengal does this and so does not go out anymore.Mostly lives indoors anyway but 3 times in a week getting the little
sod off the neighbours roof!
Some positive news - not the best, but at least we know roughly where he is now:
At 1030 last night there was an almighty cat fight outside the front door, which ordinarily isn't something we'd be pleased about, but we believe it indicated he was nearby, as there's only our other cat, Piglet, who goes out and about near our place. The neighbour's cat never, ever comes up this far.
So the trap got moved up from the hangar, and some food put out.
this morning, the food has gone, but the trap remained empty. No guarantees that he took the food, could have been hedgepigs or foxes.
Mid morning one of the farm hands spotted him in the tractor shed, less than 10 feet away, and quite bold. So the trap's been moved again, a bowl of food put nearby, and some biscuits elsewhere in the shed. Will go back shortly to see if there's been any movement.

not ordinarily, no!
Piglet became the sole cat after our other three passed away over the years. She's an incredibly efficient hunter, but we got Bob because we thought she was a bit lonely.
They were just starting to tolerate one another in the house, but I think she was defending her external territory and he spooked her. It's been a tough few weeks for her too.

sorry, I disagree. We were making progress in that regard.

Anyway - went and fed him in the tractor shed this morning
Not my idea of progress, but anyway, I hope Bob is OK.I'd take him off your hands tomorrow - but would never dream of introducing a new cat until the old one has passed on.
