Right,

Of the back of the "50p off a liter" thread, but on a slightly different tangent.....

I filled my 8 month old, 14k mile Kia Rio 1.4CRDI up from pretty much empty to absolutely full to the brim with Morrow's Derv on Sunday because of the spend £60 in store get 15p off a litre..no brainer, save £6 off the tank.

I have never put Morrow's Derv in, it has pretty much always been run on Tesco diesel, but it is running rough as arses and the fuel economy has dropped off a cliff. Usually averages 57MPG on the dash (about 53 calculated) in my normal commuting to work, no motorways, 16 miles a day. Since the Morrisons fill up, economy has dropped to 42MPG on the dash, the car feels like its loosing power and i am sure it dropped into limp this morning, then after an automated stop start in traffic came back to life, all since the Sunday fill up. I know morrisons diesel is about 7% bio which is a few % higher than most other standard fuels, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Anyone else seen such a drastic effect from M's fuels? I am going to go and top the tank with super derv later and keep doing so until the M stuff is flushed out. I'm not really arsed about the car its under warranty and leased, but there is no saving at all if the cars 25% less economical!

Irun my Astra diesel on Morrison's fuel all the time and have no problems with the engine running badly or fuel consumption.

Cars can be a bit arsey about different fuels. I once "treated" mine to a tank of VPower and it seemed to hate it, back to Momentum now and it's fine...

I've often thought about posting about Moggy's fuel...not because I agree with you though. I find mpg increases on our cars when we use their fuel, both Diesel and unleaded. Discovery goes from 31 to 32 mpg. Evora from 30 to 32 mpg. Fuel from the local ex Texaco is st though.

I filled my Fabia up once at sainsbury's because it was about 3p cheaper than the shell up the road, my car hated it she didnt feel as sharp as it normally does. Now the 3p extra doesnt feel as bad.

I find Morrison's fuel gets me on average 50 fewer miles to the tank, every time. When you only get 250 to a tank anyway that's a hefty loss. Utter piss that stuff, not touching it again!

I will let my wife know that you don't like her work lease car, Thanks for the insightful and useful comment.

Based on the useful comments, I will just put it down to a one off and avoid the Morro's fuel in future.

Quite right it isnt, but clearly the type of car is irrelevant to the question asked.

As it goes i dont currently own any cars that are on the road, I drive the wifes Kia and also out 1303 beetle (also in her name). When i get my integrale back on the road, I will let you know, That OK?

It might be running rough because you filled the tank with a diesel engined road vehicle. I would recommend using diesel instead.

Actually when she chose the Kia, there was strong case for the 458 but the lack of rear doors, and frankly shocking ability to deal with speed humps really swung it for the Kia, The poor 'Ring lap time was a factor admittedly but we decided to opt for the brand new £16k car as it seemed like a better option as the daily driver than an old golf 4 motion for instance.....At least it is considered one of the better current crop of supermini's. Also we did think the given the frankly minuscule percentage of new cars sold in the UK that are supermini's it was a bit of left field choice, Oddly though her employer wont let her lease a second hand car...weird eh!

If we are being pedantic it's called DERV to distingiush it from red diesel.
Is it pronounced ped-ant or pedant?

How empty did you run it? I dont like running too close to empty as if there is a load of scuzz floating in the tank it increases the chance of it getting into the engine.

I'd grin and bear it for the next couple of hundred miles then bite the bullet and stick some V-Power diesel in to give it a good clean-out.

FWIW my OH's 116d seems to get better mpg on Morrisons fuel than Tesco. Go figure

If it wasnt so new I would had suspected crap from the tank, but i always run it down to when it says 30 miles left so about 3 liters in the tank.

Extremely aware, judging by how touchy he is. Strangely though, only with me, not the wally who you were replying to...
