I've actually been meaning to post this for a couple of months...
My V8V...especially when cold makes an odd noise when driving at low-med speed.
I can only describe it as sounding like a electric motor that gets louder with revs. It's not loud by any means but defintely audiable.

Any idea?
Alternator?

Like a whine?

If so mine did that and it wasnt power steering as it happened in a straight line. Told Aston when it went in for the umpteenth time but never got fixed, forget what story I was told at the time

Mine does this in cold weather. Then again it makes different sounds depending on the day of the week, whether there is an R in the months and my mood smile All of them go away when the car is up to temp. Going to leave the car with BR for the service and they will do a cold start and investigate all the sounds. Damn wookie is still in there too!

It's the oil pump - common issue when cold.

Plus 1 . Mine was driven with an AM tech guy in and he said precisely that.

Mine does this also. Does it need fixing if it's the oil pump?
It goes away quite quickly once warm so it doesn't bother me but I would be concerned if it could indicate a possible failure.

No as I understand, it's nothing to worry about. Personally I just drive it with plenty of "mechanical sympathy" for the first few minutes when cold - keeping the revs right down until it's circulated warm oil around the engine.

Hell yes, sorry should have clarified. It's normal and nothing to worry about.
