Hi all,
I've just been driving back from town, I changed from first to second and pushed the accelerater slightly hard, there was kind of a squeaking noise, like metal on metal, please tell me it's nothing major, note its an R reg saxo 1.1 and its soaking on the roads if that makes any difference, cheers

Possibly? Just does it when being pushed kind of like pulling off

My xsara does the same thing, plus the heater squeaks on settings 2 and 4 but not 1 and 3. The stereo has a mind of it's own as the volume increases/decreases all the time. The headlights have recently started staying on even once the switch is in the off position but this is fixed by turning the engine on/off again. There is a odd chirp from the clutch to and I think the starter motor solenoid is sticking as that squeaks to.

It comes with owning French cars....

Does the clutch operation and pedal feel normal?

A high pitch squeal can be a belt slipping as others have said - your local motor factor will sell a tin of 'belt dressing' for a couple of quid. You can squirt this on the belts, should stop it squealing. Then you know you need to get them changed at some point!

You should stop pulling off while driving, especially with only one week of driving experience...

Sounds like the alternator belt. Bit of extra load from heater fan, lights, wiper etc. Squeaks a bit until it warms up. Be aware that adjusting it is fraught with danger of snapping off bolts unless you give them all a bit of WD40.

Check the slip joint on the front section of the exhaust.

We had a funny squeaking noise on our sprint Saxo, ended up with the clutch failing.

My VTS had a number of squeaks when i bought it, which were only cured by stripping the interior out completely as part of the track build hehe

Although now 3 years on & with a very minimal interior, there are still squeaks which i've put down to it being a typical french car hehe
