Just been trying to change the bulb on my mx5.

I can't get the electrics connector off the back of it. From what ive read it should go in this order..

Pull electrics off back, then pull back the rubber and then unclip the actual light?

Am i missing something with regards to the connecter as ive been trying now for 15mins.

You need to squeeze both sides of the electrical connector at the same time (ie, between your thumb and index finger as you're holding it) and then pull it off the bulb base. This "should" release the connector from the base but from personal experience I can vouch for the fact that it can be quite difficult to remove (especially on the passenger side where space is at a premium). Keep at it, it will come off eventually.

Good luck.

I suppose that the only damage you could possibly do by yanking too hard is bend the bulb retaining clip out of shape. In the past I have pulled the rubber back and then unclamped the bulb (with electrical connector still attached). With the bulb free from the housing it was easier to unclip the connector. Perhaps you can give that a go. However, I know for definite that the connector has two retaining points which need to be squeezed together simultaneously in order to release the bulb. When reinserting the bulb it will "click" into place.

Pop to a garage or IIRC Halfords do it for £4.

However I've changed loads without an issue - just take a good look at the connector.

I know exactly what you mean, had the same on my MX5,(3 connector H4) as someone has already said you need to 'pinch' the sides of the connector and it will come off easily, so easy it will make you laugh at yourself!! Look closer.
