Hi there,

I just returned from Greece with my Chimaera (Chimaera s love the hot weather) I have driven from Venice to Sweden over the Alps with absolutely no problem.

Got back to Sweden open garage door, tried to put my car in the garage and I could not put the car in gear. Eventually got car in garage and found a small leak on my clutch master cylinder. Took the master cylinder out and took it to a specialist here and found the master cylinder was so full of dirt and grime this could of coursed a problem with leaking fluid.

Cleaned the Master cylinder and now put it back on the car.
Started to bleed system from the slave cylinder using a non return valve on a tube, kit I bought, and constantly topping up the reservoir so no air goes into the system.
I am doing this on my own and still can't get enough pressure to activate the clutch.

Can someone help me and tell me the best way to bleed the system step by step?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Paul

Paul,
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but if the front of the car is raised and the back not the level of fluid at the lowest point in the chamber can get very close to the outlet and easily get air in the system as you bleed. Secondly I seem to remember the slave may be fitted upside down with the bleed valve at the bottom under the hydraulic pipe, this means air can lock in the top of the slave. The slave should be fitted with the valve above the pipe making it easier to bleed. (That may be bcensoreds but worth checking). Lastly has all the crap got into the slave as well?
Good luck

Thanks a lot,

The car is raised at the front so maybe tom I will raise it from the back.

The fluid coming through is completely clear but it maybe worth while taking the slave off and check it.

Do you know anything about reverse bleeding from the slave up to the master?.. I have seen a video with this and its meant to push the air upwards to the master which sort of makes sense as wait naturally wants to rise.

The way you are doing it has the potential to get air back into the slave past the threads of the bleed nipple.

Two ways forward.
Recruit an assistant to press the pedal.
open nipple, ass presses pedal to floor and says 'Down'
You close nipple and say 'up'
Open nipple and say 'down'
And so on...

Buy an easybleed

A reserve of fluid is connected to the master cylinder and to the spare wheel (no more than 15psi)
The air pressure forces fluid through the system so all you have to do is open the nipple.

To do it that way, unbolt the slave from the bellhousing. Keep hold of the piston as you do so that it doesnt ping out. Turn the slave round so that piston is facing the floor and the bleed nipple is facing upwards. Then slowly push the slave piston all the way in, slowly. Repeat this until no more air comes out of the master.

I would have someone keep an eye on the master cylinder and a few rags to hand. I had to recently bleed mine in this manner as i struggled for some unknown reason with the conventional method. It worked perfect. Mind you it is easier if your clutch pipe is a flexi one. wink
