As title, radiator fan is constantly on on the wife's 2002 1.6 Focus - the car is not losing water, heater etc works fine but the fan comes on immediately on starting up and it doesn't go off.

Sounds to me like a faulty sensor? If so, any idea where the sensor is? I had a quick look but in the dark it is hard to see much amongst so much black plastic!

Thanks

Does your focus have the vents that automatically adjust on the grill? Have heard that the fuse that controls these can blow, leaving the vents shut and letting the engine warm up - could explain the fan (trying to cool the engine?).

Not sure, will need to check - I am not sure what it is as the fan comes on straight away even when the engine is cool so doesnt seem to be an issue with heating up as such

Despite the title i think the O/P is refering to a MK1, is the air con swithed on? as this could cause the fans to run constantly.

Nuts! It is 2002 and NOT 2012 - now to figure out how to change the title!

Second this comment smile

If the aircon is left turned on or, quite possibly as it's approaching winter, if you have the blowers directed to "demist" or pointed at the windscreen then the aircon automatically kicks in, as it's to aid quick clear of the screen.

My Mk1 Focus RS used to do exactly this when i had the blowers directed like that.

If there is a sensor to control the rad fan and it blows the fan will run constantly until the sensor is replaced.
