"Victorian and NSW Police have unwittingly confirmed speeding's place as a politically sensitive revenue issue, rather than one related to road safety. In the past three months both forces have either threatened to conduct or conducted industrial action in the form of refusing to issue infringement notices for speeding and other minor traffic offences. In both states the respective police associations made public their intention to hit the government where it hurts- the hip pocket - without compromising public safety. Victorian and NSW government each make well in excess of $1 million each week from speeding fines."
