I dont think you will find the £70 for a day's downloading of all you can, expensive compared to jumping in blind or going to a stealer. Lets face it you have got a Vanquish so £70?

Do you know if your gearbox sensors have been changed to the proximity type?
Your best bet is to go to the AMOC site and search for "Vanquish gearbox". You will be amazed at what you find. Put the same question in there, it is far more technical than the PH site.

What you describe does indeed sound like the common problem experienced with the original gearbox selector sensors, especially as your car is the same age as mine. I'm afraid its a gearbox out job to change, but that will be the last you will see of that problem.

Idle curiosity really. As NDW says, sounds like a bent selector sensor wire but could be knackered pump and/or fluid and/or pressure sensor. The workshop manual will show where and how to check the ASM fluid, but as to fixing or replacing the selector sensors - leave it to a specialist.
