I am looking to fit a OEM Werner fire extinguisher to my 996 GT3. My car is packed away for the winter so without digging it out of hibernation, can anyone tell me if the mounting points for the OEM 996 GT3, Club Sport and RS extinguisher are there under the passenger footwell carpet?

The beleive that OEM unit is supplied with its own integral bracket, which is just flat metal thing with 3 threaded holes...

Thanks in advance. thumbup

I'm probably being stupid but I dont really understand what you are asking for.

I have a 996 GT3 CS, and it has two mounting holes in the centre of the passenger footwell which
the extingisher bracket bolts into.

The carpet and floor mat have holes cut in them so the mounting holes in the floor are visable.
The bracket is black and has two holes drilled through to mount onto the floor.
If i can help anyother way, let me know !

hi Dave, is your 996 a comfort or clubsport?

Hi,

Do not think the mounts will be there on a comfort model.

Will check tomorrow.

ok the 996.1 clubsport has the floor mounts for the fire extinguisher, the 996.1 comfort does not have the mounts for the extinguisher.. similar story with the floor cage mounts. i think its the same deal with the 6.2's as mike will confirm tomorrow...

so if your looking to mount an extinguisher to a 6.2 (comfort) that does not have the factory floor mounts for the extinguisher, i may have an idea...

i did not like the clubsport factory position of the extinguisher, so i mounted mine 90deg. round and tucked it close up to the seat bolster on a simple bracket mounted from the front seat mounts. i simply fabricated a bracket from flat steel bar, you could use alloy bar if you like.. once the extinguisher is mounted in this position, you can't see the bracket and the fit looks almost factory. my reason for this was it leaves the footwell free and access for the passenger is alot easier if you have a full cage.. also no need to cut holes in your carpet or drill the floor.. i'll post some pics of the mount i made if you like when i'm with my car at work tomorrow..?

this is the only pic i can find right now of my extinguisher, just under the handbrake..

this is the factory cs/rs mounting.. our 7.2 rs i know but its the same in 996/997.

If you don't have mountings it's just a case of fitting a couple of rivnuts to the floor so its very easy to install.

That being said, if you have no mounting there it liberates you as to where/how you install just as ade says. Fitting 90 degrees round makes it a bit easier for passengers.

Aren't the OEM FE pretty expensive to buy? You could always go with the BK under seat quick release bracket?

The OEM (Werner) one is bigger in capacity terms, but the trade off is its very bulky. I am a bit of stickler for OEM stuff, there are are numerous slimmer ones available and some really cool mounting kits, but I like originality. I do agree that at £250+ they are an expensive option.

I have an option on a Werner unit via a friend at a very reasonable price, so I was hoping it might mount to the correct place as per the CS, RS variants. I dont want to go drilling the floor, cutting the carpets and mats if there are no mounting points there...

I'll ask Jack now as I'm sure he's been routing around under his 6.2 comfort's carpets this week..

Hi,
I haven't had the carpets up in the front, but having a poke around it doesn't feel like there is anything under the carpet in the passenger footwell.
You'd think that if they left the welded Motorsport cage mounting points out of the comfort cars that they would leave the welded in extinguisher mounting points too.

A bit of a thread resurrection but what did you do in the end? Did you get the points welded in and how easy/difficult was it not to ruin the carpet et al?
