Come home to find my gf's car gone, and the patio door wide open with the lock missing.

Car is a light blue Mini Cooper S, with a black and white chequerboard roof, LG03SZY.

bds, I was only out for 20 mins, and left the light on inside too.

Sorry to hear. Where abouts are you? (And I don't mean phoning the police smile).

Whitwood, near J31 of the M62.

No doubt some scroat is ragging it around a council estate somewhere.

Your on clublupo aren't you? When I saw the thread title I thought it was the gti!

Like you say, probably being ragged about for fun, not really the kind of car stolen to order!

Please
If you have euro locks CHANGE THEM
It only takes seconds to get into your house and almost without noise!

Good advice cos W Yorks is the hub of Euro lock bumping and snapping.

I have anti bump and anti snap Euros in all mine.

not cheap, and make sure you order enough keys

Not cheap? they're £40 and they take less than 5 minutes to change over. I'd say that's pretty cheap to prevent what is a VERY easy way of getting into a property in a matter of seconds.

Ordered myself some of those locks.

I never got them previously as I have never had a car I would say was particularly attractive to thieves - I live in a nice estate and there are plenty of new expensive fast cars parked on people's driveways, rather than a 10 year old mini

I don't dispute that they are good value considering the potential consequences, but compared with a normal euro lock they are dear + when you add 7 sets of keys to the price its becomes even more expensive.

7 sets of keys? Why on earth...?

Anyway decent security eurolocks are available from £17 with keys £6 each after the 3 included

Me, Wife, Son, Daughter, Cleaner, Mum in Law, spare

could also justify another as Car No 2 set of keys, Ive gone out of the house before now with keys for the toy and locked myself out. Fortunately not for long.

Seems the locks are more readily available now - when I got mine a few years ago there was only really one manufacturer that was doing them.

How easy are these to fit, is it a diy job or call in a locksmith?

Edit to add; just found the yale video, looks a doddle to fit!

The most difficult part of fitting is making sure you get the right size unit.

I did find when fitting mine that the hardened anti pull grips foul on the shroud inside the door handle so I have left it off for now and just need to file out a bit of the metalwork so that they fit inside.

I paid £40 for Yale BS unit from Screwfix and it came with three keys.

Its one screw to undo and refit.

Screw is on the door edge, unscrew that and it just slides out. The screw lines up with the bottom of the lock. You may need to twiddle the key to line up the 'latch'.

Where the screw goes into the lock is one of the reasons why the euro locks are a problem. Cos of the design there is very little metal around the screew and its this area that snaps when they do lock snapping.

The antibump and antisnap locks are usually one way fit (with standard euros it doesn't really matter) so you need to tell them when ordering which is the outside measurement.

Well I've bought another car and turned my house into a fortress.

The ins co sent me a letter saying my policy was cancelled, and if I wanted to reinstate on another car to call them. I thought that if the car was written off that was the end of the policy?

I had expected to have to pay for another years policy but I rang them and they said it would be £30 for the new car? Is this until the car is officially written off or for the rest of the year?

I only renewed the insurance a week before it got nicked

The cheque from the insurance co is now on its way, so that's the end of that!

Pleased with the payout - only 200 short of what I bought the car for over a year ago.
