Steel or forged????
Discussion
Rods are usually forged in steel whereas billet is hammer formed and the rods are machined from a lump of billet. Billet is therefore denser and heavier unless machined smaller. Billet will be stronger, how strong do you need to be or how light? Ask if there are any weights for the forgings you can use to make a comparison. I'd prefer billet but wouldn't want the little end to be heavier then forged if at all possible
Oh, I'd also want a custom rod not something off the shelf for this project, so you may be able to get it lightened, or better still go titanium

Hasn't EN40 been around since the war effort. I'm sure I read about that somewhere, it's said to be good stuff. Personally I like Carrillo and Oliver the most followed by Crower and Arrow and they seem to be amongst the best around. Oliver are also popular for the LS1 engines and I have to say the americans are good with pricing and delivery. Eagle seem to exceptionally good value if it's for an 'off the shelf engine', I think they are made in China which keeps the price down.
Who makes the HP rods? Are they US or UK sourced?

I would not like to foot the bill for this! Are you having all the stages implemented now? I was not aware that the zero shift was available yet?
Good luck with the work. This is going to be an incredible car. When do you hope to get the build finnished? Can I take a look when it is
Cheers,
Rob

The guy who invented Zeroshift knows the engine building firm (he's using their services on his '67 Cadillac)... So thats how I'm getting in quick... hehe
Rjben, yeah right, maybe if I had bothered to save I would have been able to do it all in one go.
Stage 1 will be complete by November, we're going for a BIG output! But wont be shifting her like dragging etc till stage 2, which I reckon will take place next year around March/April time.... (maybe sooner if anybody wants to loan me on interest-free??!??)
Stage 3 around June.
Good news is, works not starting till coming saturday now. Was down there and went through a few 1000+bhp engines with turbos twice the size of bowling balls.... a few custom cars, a viper, and others... their services are very expensive, but one of the best in the UK... I trust them whole-heartedly... one thing that might up the price is, depending on the crank quality... they might have to get some caps made and a few other things too... basically I've said I want the engine to be solid - re-inforce it for 2000bhp.... (dont worry, theres no way in hell I'm going into a 4 figure zone.... mmmm...well...)
I even saw a few cam type things for monster trucks there, shit these things were MASSSIVEEE!!!!
Also showed me a roots blower (HUGE!!! HEAVY!!!) and a centrifugal jobbie.... saw a cossie engine...
plus, I never knew that a viper used to use MBE systems ECU???? They were ripping it out to replace with a motec with full sequential injection...
nearly everything they said flew over my head, but spent about 4 hours (past closing time) talking about everything and how things work...
Other half was with me, and bored as hell looking at this massive engine sitting next to her.... I'm serious, I never knew a 5.7 chevvy engine was SOOOO freakin big!!! I'm still gobsmacked - in comparison to our AJP's... umbelieveable....
Rjben, when the job is done, I will definitely come out to the TCR gathering that Graham is sorting out, but I cant drag till stage 2 (unless I want my whole drivetrain ripped apart)... but if you want to come round my place, not a problem at all, just email me... (maybe a late evening would be best, so we can take her out for a blast (legal of course)....
But I'll keep you all informed on the updates - I've managed to get a site sorted, the missis is into web stuff, she said she'll manage it with pictures etc... so starting next monday, pictures will start pouring in, every part, every nook, every crannie!... hehe
I'll post the URL after she gets the domain name sorted out...
If you're wandering about the price (stage 1,2,3 combined will cost the same as a brand new off the shelf cerbera 4.5 RR).... (lots of sweet talk going on to keep the other half in bed with the whole project!
)

) Good against GT cars???
I'll make sure I smash them! hehe
The wrath of the Cerbera Speed 8 - for not being allowed in the GT cup when it tried!
Yes, she will be expensive to run, isnt she allready???
But she's just a weekend car anyway, so now she becomes a weekend killing machine....

First stage completion date set to November bruv.
Second stage will start next year March (maybe sooner if funds and lady allow)
Third stage might now happen with stage 1.
I'm currently looking into keeping the engine at perfect temp 95% of the time...
and we all know how inadequate the current cooling arrangements are... yuk!
I'm speaking to an industrial company at the moment, looking into running a supercoolant through the system rather than just water and coolant....
just confirming prices and refill intervals and costs....
My main objectives are 1: 'RELIABILITY'.... then 2
erformance... and then 3:looks...
After all the main work is done and she's sweet, then I have some ideas up my sleeve to make her look beautiful... I was going to cut holes all over the hood, but I thought, leave it classy - I think she might need a rear spoiler though, with all this power... looking into a lightweight custom carbon jobbie... but I wander if I can have it designed so that it can hide into the lip of the boot automatically... like aeroactive.... but touches like that will be the last thing, and I dont see myself doing them till 2006.... I hope you all keep your rides... she's a classic now... dont let go!
