08 A4 Cabriolet roof stuck

Hi,

Got a an 08 A4 cabriolet with a roof that doesn't want to go up or down. With the roof up you press the button and this is as far as it goes...



Windows go half way down and roof goes up an inch or two and then stops.

Without taking it to a main dealer and getting ripped off, is there anything else I can try first?

Roof motor sounds seized. Remove the drivers side trim in the boot and give the motor a few taps with a hammer.

Is the trim glued onto the car or something? I've tried removing it after removing the roof cover and a few screws but it won't budge.

Hi I have the same problem, it happens more in cold weahter apparently! The brushes stick on the motor, I have found this which seems V helpful. Not had time to try myself yet, but looks like the answer.

Have you had the car serviced by Audi? There is quite a rigorous lubrication schedule for the roof mechanism as part of the maintenance. Also if the roof won't move you'll need to open then close it manually to reset it, this is explained in the manual. For the actually fault it could be any number of things, position sensors, the hydraulic pump, etc etc.

I've done the manual reset which it says to do in the manual, this didn't help.

Also when I first went out this morning and tried it, it worked fine. Tried it 10 minutes later and it kept getting stuck again.

Hasn't been serviced for roughly 8 months but has full Audi service history.

Find someone with vagcom and get the fault codes read as a starting point, that should at least give you a hint where the problem is.

I have the same problem with my 2008 now, did u fix it? what was causing it?

The problem is with the motor, the brushes stick in their housing, worse when cold.
There is a guy in Harrogate Yorkshire, modifies and recons them, his number is 07788 922927 Mervyn Ashton, TGS, Kindon Court, Camwal Road, Harrogate. HG1 4PT.
I actually went to his I am quite local, and he changed it for me. Never had a problem since.

Highly recommended.
