mini moto's or go-peds

Hi,

It was my first year last year at le mans 24h and as i was told i would love it, i did and am now booking for next year 2013, i saw alot of people riding around on mini moto's and go-ped etc etc and the french police didnt seem bothered by these.

I am thinking about buying one to take with me so i can get around and see more of the track...

Does anyone know the rules and law

On the camp site they are annoying but the police don't care.

On the road they need to be registered, etc just like anything else and the police DO care if the mood takes them. Remember seeing one guy get stopped and given the shaking finger. He pushed it 10 paces and got back on, queue blue flashing lights and a police car crawling along behind him while they made sure he pushed it all the way back towards Beausjour from Houx. Even seen a man pushing a mini moto? Bet his back loved it!

About an hour.
Did it last year on our pushbikes in 45 minutes, slow, I know but we did stop for many photo's.

I don't mind them if they're being used to and from track, but when they are buzzing up and down repeatedly by your tent, its so bloody annoying.
I have taken push bikes the last few years and they are great for getting around, and easy to transport them there, either by a bike rack on the back of car , or a fold up bike on the back seat.

The officials around the circuit get arsey too when they see you...
a few years ago we used them between the broadcast truck and the camp site ... a few times the in track security would stop you and tell you off

As fro outside the circuit, dont, ( think that has been said already )

Especially with the amount of dust they can throw up!

I used one last year to get about from pz54 (porsche curves area) to Arnage, the village, tertre rouge and had many nice exchanges with the gendarmes. As long as you are sensible they graciously tolerate the eccentric visitors. As do fellow campers.
I have fond memories of a mad Friday a few years ago when we stood in amazement watching a chap in a mankini towing a fish on a skateboard with a go ped. Pictures later showed the brave fish beached in a puddle on houx annexe.
Happy days, all that's needed is the right attitude.

The year before last was a Pain. Gendarmes weren't having it. Didnt so any this year really.

I use a goped to get around the sites and as long as you behave with them I don't see the problem.
I have never been stopped by the Gendarmes.
It is worth taking one just to do a lap on Sunday evening.

Mini motos are a different animal and understand the Gendarmes putting a foot down. They are very dangerous on the roads.
