As above, purchase and modding price included, which one and why if you please.

1) 996 C2 - Practical, composed. New suspension and new exhaust/intake for the package. Possibly shoddy residuals.

2) Z3MC - Less practical but lairy as standard. new suspension and exhuast. Only seem to be going up in value.

3) VX220 - Audi V8 swap. Least practical, silly fun performance. Would probably need another FWD car to go with it and value post swap, questionable.

So what would you go for and why?

I'd buy the 996 then spend months regretting not buying the M Coupe.

Yeah, I think I'd do that too.

Although if I were allowed a 4th choice it would be a Europa SE and a bit of a haggle.

Z3MC without a doubt.
996 probably the best overall package but the first time you see a Z3 when you`re out in your 996 you`ll think: st, I wish I`d bought that!

VX220 V8 just a bit too insane (for me!)

996C2 for me and then spend the next 2 years s**ting myself that the IMS bearing is about to go pop (after reading through all the posts in the Porsche section).

Typical PH response of recommending a totally different car:

With your budget i'd amend the list to:

1: Porsche 911 C2

2: BMW Z4M

3: Lotus Elise S2

wink

(PS buy one of the bottom 2 unless you have the security of a good sized backup pot otherwise you WILL be worrying over every little noise and positively st yourself the first time you start it and are engulfed by the biggest cloud of white smoke you have ever seen - TADTS) hehe

VX220, utterly silly fun. A total event.
996, ugly not particularly exciting drive. Not very cool either.
Z3M, Very cool, everyday hooligan car.

I'd go for the VX8R. Proper sportscar, proper noise, very rare and stupid. And buy a 944 shed to run around in.

Porsche engine issues don't worry me too much. If it went bang i'd rebuild bigger and better but it's not the issue it's deemed to be IMO.

Elise S2 doesn't do it for me in standard form. Awesome steer and quickish but i'm not going back to zzfe's, no matter what it's got bolted on.

I like big engines, i like the noises they make and the experience they give and they suits my uses better.

Everyday driver or toy? If an everyday driver I would go for the 996 as you will spend 80% of the time knowing its the right choice. If a toy go for the V8 VX220, Bupa and a really good life insurance policy.

Get one of the best Z3Ms rather than one of the worst 996s no question

Not a daily, i get the train to work and the burd has a practical car.

I want something that's a fun weekend toy that i can take out hooning. Something i can hang onto for a while would be nice too.

A tweaked 911 is something i have to do at some point, 964's are getting just out of reach so it's a 996 for me when i do.
