Does anyone else get periods where they absolutely crave something tasty?

I'm getting it every afternoon at the moment and it's doing my head in. I'm not hungry, I had a good lunch chicken and vegetable risotto, I just need some taste. Something like cheese and biscuits would be fantastic about now.

How can I stop it without eating stuff I don't need to?

I wonder if it's so you don't stop hunter gathering even though you are full in the early afternoon.

Interesting; I can remember periods of being hungry like this, when I've spent longer periods of time on work and telly/ internet, and less time with others or outside.

I wouldn't say I'm hungry though. I feel quite full from lunch! Maybe, as per the link, I ate too quickly or something.

I went through a stage where I would spoon English mustard onto everything, even just dip my finger in for the pure flavour.

It went away after a while though, no baby either.

Are you in your thirties? I think it affects a lot of men, and it's the main reason why forty-something year olds are fatter than twenty-something year olds. You take up running and all kinds of other st to try and stave off the weight gained from shovelling Foie Gras in your face every afternoon, But in the end just give in, smother yourself in lard and embrace your inner Jabba.

I'm 23. I do tend to put weight on easily, dieting doesn't work, I have to do a few hours of biking every day to keep the weight down to what it should be. Eat around (give or take) 2600 calories a day. Only eat 3 times a day - so far I've not snacked, but the temptation really is there.

What do you mean dieting doesn't work? You mean you don't have the willpower?

Not at all. I just don't shift weight very easily unless I'm physically active. It just takes a lot longer to shift by just eating less, than actually going out on the bike.

ETA: to clarify, this isn't a losing weight thread. It's a "I want these cravings to go away without eating to satisfy them" thread!
