We run a Ford Focus C Max TDci as a family car. It's my wifes car but as we have two dogs and I have a saloon whenever we go anywhere at weekends it's in that. It has been a great car, covered about 25,000 trouble free miles, returns good MPG and is reasonably swift.

However, we are at the stage now where a family is beginning to be planned so a bit more room would be nice but also a bit of a nicer cabin. I don't want to spend any more - I can only really justify this if it doesn't cost any more money (to myself and the wife!) What do people think of these:

That looks a hell of a lot of car for the money, are there any known reliability issues? I don't know whether it would be sensible to run the C Max into the ground but a change would be nice. Any other suggestions welcome:

£2-£3K budget max, not rocketship mileage, either diesel or economical petrol, more space than a C Max, nice cabin.

Is that really much bigger than the c max? Once the dogs are in the back there's no boot space left unless they are very small dogs.

The boot is a lot bigger! Room enough for a couple of suitcases and the dogs (greyhound and lurcher), and the cars much nicer too. As I said it's more of an 'is it worth it' kind of question..

Have i miss-read this...you have a Focus C-max but don't have a family at the moment?

But you run it as a family car?

Nice car but the 2.2TiD is an absolute lemon of an engine. They later dropped it on the 9-5 facelifts for an uprated 1.9 similarly shared with Vauxhall, but is a much, much better unit.

We have 2 dogs and are planning a family. My wife works with young children and carries them around so requires a sensible car anyway.
