Well i wont do that again!

You know how it is, you are so happy up with your new car purchase that you forget about the practicalities of living with it.

So i decided to swap (plus cash) my TVR Chimaera for a Ferrari Mondial. (sort of a sideways upgrade, its slower, a lot.)

went through with the PX and got it home. I didnt put it in the garage the first night, as it was late and i had to move some stuff about.

Anyway, i had a play with the car and decided to put it in the garage, now the TVR had a good 18" of space (length-wise) in the garage... but this...

It doesnt fit.

Its about an inch too long to get in and close the garage door.

cock.

Lol, surely you can modify the door to give an extra inch of clearance?

A friend of mine did the same although not with a Ferrari. He had to knock the end wall down and poke the nose of the car into the utility room.

His wife went fking ballistic laugh

hehe! yeah - not sure i can modify the door really, would look weird against the other garage door.

the other option is to recess the rear garage wall a bit. there is about a foot of space behind the garage, so could build a little mini 3ft high extension :-)

It'll have a bit of give in it, just make sure you give the garage door a proper slam.

BTW, worst I've got a Ferrari thread evvaarrrrr smile

Seriously though, cool car and full marks for updating your profile so quickly with a pic of your new car.
Parked outside hehe

Can you move the door frame forward about an inch?

Cheaper than knocking a hole in the back wall!

I'm in the middle of the same process.
My garage has a fairy narrow opening so width is tight on the S60, along with having a roller cab tool chest at the front of the garage I'm tight for length too.

I have had to go through a list of car I like and look up all the dimensions on Autotrader, checking and double checking.....crossing cars of as I go.

It has made the selection process a lot simpler now it's done biggrin I have just got to pin down an honest seller and I'll be laughing rolleyes

Dear dc,

you can move house can't you?
Or rent a another garage (bigger of course smile ) from the council or housing assoc.?

When looking for a new house recently the garage was the first thing I measured. I declined to offer on two otherwise suitable homes because the garage was too small,

Jet

You could take my approach of knocking down the garage and rebuilding it several feet bigger on the thinly veiled excuse of adding an extra bedroom over the top. smile

So - whilst musing..... If / when I replace my MX5, that sits nicely in my single garage, a 996 or 7 will fit.

Won't it?
Of course they'll fit. No problems whatsoever.

I had an irritating version of the same problem many years back; got rid of my '85 Cavalier for an AE82 Corolla GTi. Its shorter than the Cavalier, so it'll fit in the garage. Sure, it fit length wise, but width? The doors always interfered with some of the brickwork. So I eventually gave up and kept the drivers window open and got in/out Dukes of Hazard style .....

Bit extreme, moving! might be slightly easier just to mod the garage or sell the car...

+1 This, My dad had to do this back in the 80's when he bought a new Izusu Trooper, He didn't consider length only height, i clearly remember actually going with him to the garage with a tape measure, then going to the Dealer and checking height.

He was not best pleased, had i been an adult i suspect i would have laughed.. A LOT!
