We all know that you have to get to the airport either 2 or 3 hours before an international flight. So, if there's a pile up on the motorway and worse case scenario the motorway has to be closed, then I appreciate that the airline can't be held responsible and you should have adequate insurance in place.
BUT, what if as part of your ticket price the airline offered a chauffeur service to and from the airport? Is it then the airlines responsibility to make sure you get to the airport in time for your flight?

My very first business flight involved a closed M4 motorway and missed flight. Thanks to RailAir from Reading to Heathrow deciding to sit in the queue and not find a better way (at 5am!).
bmi were very accommodating and let me catch the next flight for no extra charge - it's fair to say the airport was in chaos. This made such an impression on me that I flew over 100 times with them and skipped BA.
Sorry - didn't answer your question

BIt of good old fashioned customer service (or common sense), earned your loyalty for the next 100 flights or so, and however many more on your recommendation. bmi were very accommodating and let me catch the next flight for no extra charge - it's fair to say the airport was in chaos. Nice to read, and hopefully a few more people will read it and realise that by saving a few quid by not being reasonable is potentially costing them £1000's in future business.
