I may need to get a 944 up here in a few weeks, but I don't think I can get the time to hire a trailer and go and get it myself. Has anyone got any good firms to ask for a quote from?

Cheers

I use Beamish to get cars for me, they're tip top

Or, Teeside Transport?

I've used this guy before. He may not be the cheapest but he's professional.

No connection by the way, only as a satisfied customer.

I used this guy a few years ago - by the look of the truck he's gone a bit upmarket since then though, but he was very good and helpful, gave me a price for doing it as soon as possible and a lower one if I didn't mind waiting a couple of weeks so that he could tie it in with other deliveries.

Based in Leeds so roughly halfway between your start and finish points.

If you want to find the cheapest, get quotes from Shiply.

I got some quotes from Shiply when I was looking. Be careful is my advice. Some of the quotes were from blokes with trailers quoting less than what it cost me to drive down and look at the car when I bought it. They didn't inspire much confidence.

These are really local to me, very good reputation and I see some very exotic vehicles in their yard from time to time so they are obviously trusted with some precious stuff.

Really? I've used them 2-3 times with no problems.

Yes, really. Why doubt me? I had several quotes. Some were lower than the cost of the fuel, others only a bit more plus two or three 'proper' quotes.
My advice is to check that a cheap quote is from a bona fide insured outfit that does it professionally rather than a bloke with an uninsured trailer and no tacho just doing it for beer money, unless you want it really cheap and are prepared to take a risk.
I found the guy I used by googling.

As long as it's a Turbo, I'll drive it down to you hehe

I live in Northumberland. Whereabouts is the car?

EDIT: Sorry, just read the car going from Northants up here. Enjoy it!

Another vote for Shiply - used them for the last 5/6 cars I've bought and roughly 20 times total.
Look at each provider the same as you would feedback on eBay, there are always going to be the odd provider you probably would discount but I found the best value providers have been large companies with a spare spot on their trailer for your route.
I paid £97 to get my ML55 from Reading to Halifax.
Great service but as you are getting a huge discounted rate you can't demand a window but every time I've used them the lead time has been 2/3 days and at a convenient time.

Beamish Transport. I used them recently to bring a car up from Dorset to Northumberland, cost was about £250 and they were very, very helpful.
