Just asked me whether I think he has been done, apparantly going down the M4 on the way home this evening, travelling around about 100 when a car coming in the opposite direction flashed furiously, dad presumed there was a hazard ahead so began to ease off the accelerator, got down to about 90 - 95 when he saw a policeman standing on the embankment holding a radar gun, pointing it into the road. At the same time somebody in one of the outside lanes was overtaking him, would the policeman have done them both? Or just the overtaking car? Is it possible to do 2 cars at once? Also, 90 - 95 is £120 fine and 6 points, is that correct??

Cheers in advance.

No need to panic. Until the NIP arrives on the doormat the speed gun could have been pointing anywhere.

IF your Dad cops it at 95mph its likely to be a court appearance and 6pts and a fine of a few hundred quid.

If he was measure below that (also likely) he may get the standard, no court appearance, offer of 3pts and £60 - at which point chalk it up to experience...

But there's an equal chance that he'll hear no more of it.

Always thought it was 95 - but there you go. I stand corrected...

Its right on the limit, some forces/magistrates I am sure will try to generate the double fine...

..the car speedo was probably over-reading a bit though anyway so more like 90 perhaps..

What's that - 90/95 maybe 100 on a motorway? I do that not infrequently on single carriageways with no problem at all, and there's you worried about getting done. It is sheer nonsense. I'm not criticising you, but this stupid anti-speeding system drives me up the wall. In the circumstances I guess you must hope that the gun was aimed at the overtaking driver, but quite frankly I hope nobody gets done for it.

I'm not normally given to the use of bad language, but I might learn.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Just send the NIP back with the madeup name of someone from Nigeria or Sudan ect..
Thats all I did with mine when I got em.
Never checked up once, if they do tell em he is a friend and to go and find him.
They will try and frighten you but unless the copper has a picture of your dad not much he can do.
Ask for the picture of the car speeding if there is one.
