I've drawn this for a friend for a do on saturday night. I have £10 limit.

He has a capo, I did think of some decent strings as they are always handy. But not really exciting.

Don't want to burst your bubble but . . .

In reality it's not as good as you would think -- novel - yes, useful - not really. Doesn't cut thin plastic cleanly leaving a very rough edge that needs cleaning up and won't cut stuff that is really thick enough to use as a pick (I use 1mm picks). Got one last Christmas and have never used it.

This is true.

I got one last year and it does leave a rough edge. I tend to just rub it on some concrete or sandpaper to smooth it out.

The picks are fine for acoustic stuff, the only problem I find is that the plastic of the car comes off easily and leaves a lot of plastic dust on the guitar.

It's a Christmas present, and nice though strings and batteries are, it's like buying socks.

You need to get something a bit novel IMO. When I was in Memphis I bought a guitar playing friend a medicine bottle slide, which was stopped with a cork and filled with "genuine dirt from The Crossroads".

Most guitarists will be happy to learn a new song or two to stretch the skills a touch. A decent songbook or manual might work. There are tons of guitar players who are woefully lacking in theory even if a fair few wouldn't admit it!
