Used car buyers beware
Discussion
Just a heads up to any used car buyers out there.
Might be worthy of a sticky thread or Pistonheads writing an article?
As we know some prestige brands can be very price sensitive or desirable dependent on the number of previous owners.
I was rather shocked to learn a few weeks ago that some traders/owners have re registered or asked owners to re - register their vehicles in Northern Ireland prior to going on sale. My GT3 certainly has been (dealer advised) and i know of a 9 owner 430 that was 'advised' to do this. Why, you might ask?
A: Log book previous owners is zero'd when a vehicle is registered over there and then re registered here.
I've had this confirmed by a couple of reputable traders .... so just a word to the wise ... be carefull guys

Yep this is the case, however the number of previous owners will always be visible via an HPI check, so it doesn't get completely reset!Might be worthy of a sticky thread or Pistonheads writing an article?

Even if the 're-register in NI' trick did reset the number of keepers, it will add the phrase "Previously Registered eslewhere within the UK. Manufacturered Date Declared as XXXX" onto the V5, which is probably more ruinous to its value.
There's no 'even if it did' about this ... its fact. geeks said:
Why oh why do you need two threads about this?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
God I love pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

First thread in Ferrari section(i normally post in that section).
I then remembered that not everyone has a Ferrari

Hope this is OK?

That might reset the overall thread count to zero.

What is rubbish is that only completely stupid buyers would fall for that old trick.
Yet how many people post about some problem happening when they've bought a car? Much better to post so those who don't know can check for something they might not have noticed, than not to, because someone who knew about it would be unhappy. Thanks OP.

Why don't you start another thread in the Regional PH'ers Northern Ireland section?
That might reset the overall thread count to zero.

I would do mate, but I dont think Geeks (I assume he is a Geek?) and Major Bell or whatever his name is could cope with the stress That might reset the overall thread count to zero.

So people can't even post helpful stuff now without some clever dicks belittling their efforts? Bravo PH, bravo.
Agreed Bill, some proper sad fqwits on here that spoil it for everyone else.:-)
Just ignore the puerile, irrelevant and imbecilic tools who failed to look smart..

Bloody show off!
I was thinking it more prevalent with Ferrari due to new Ferrari cars sometimes changing hands 4/5 times in the first year due to people paying over list to own one, avoid depreciation etc, etc. It wouldnt be unusual to see a two year old 458 thats had 9/10 owners
Sadly i dont think this is just the case with Ferrari ... I'm guessing it happens with other brands & certain limited edition Cosworth models, etc etc.
