Flooding and Insurance - whats the sketch?
Discussion
I'm being lazy, I could probably check my policy. But I'm pretty sure that if I deliberately cause damage to my car, my ins co would be unhappy about paying out. Seems reasonable anyway.
So what about the retards who drive into deep flood water and drown their cars - probably writing them off in the 3 cases I saw this morning (water up to the base of the windscreen in one case
I mean it's pretty obvious to a sensible person that the water is deep and it's pretty obvious it's not going to do the car any good. So are they on their own, or are they likely to be able to claim?
Just idle curiosity really - doesn't affect me, I only played in deep water when I had a land rover. In a normal car I'd always rather back track and detour around the flooded bit of road.

I believe it is treated as an accident much the same as if you drove into a wall/parked car etc
^^^THIS.Your motor policy covers you for stupidity. If you drove into a flood knowing you would get stuck and write your car off, and they found out, then that's a different matter.
But driving into it because you stupidly think you can get thru unscathed, that's covered.

It's pretty obvious to a sensible person that if you go too fast down a country lane, then there's a fair chance that you'll end up in a ditch. You'd still expect insurance to pay out though right? So what about the retards who drive into deep flood water and drown their cars - probably writing them off in the 3 cases I saw this morning (water up to the base of the windscreen in one case
