Respray vs Wrap
Discussion
Hi, I have a few scratches, marks and faded patches on my car, and not being overly in love with the current colour have toyed with a colour change.
what are the sorts of pros and cons of wrapping/respray, i presume to get a good decent finish I expect the respray to come in at more expensive? also i assume i would be without the car for some considerable time?
I'm aware of wrapping damaging the paint possibly - shouldnt be too much of a problem as im covering the scratches?
also its reversible should i want to revert back perhaps for resale purposes. Also soes it affect insurance massively, IIRC you dont have to inform dvla as its temp?
Should wrapping only be used as a short term solution not a permanent - can they with-stand it?
The colour i want is chrome,
joking i want white.
Thanks.

A wrap will be cheaper and takes about 3 days to do properly.
Hexis do 5, 7 and 10 year warranties on there different vinyls' to give an idea on how long they can withstand.
Advantage of a wrap is drive through the winter, let the wrap take a beating from the grit on the road and if you want pay £100 to have the front redone in the space of a few hours, with a paint job it's a case of keying it down and getting the front redone again and sprayed etc, more cost to maintain.
Disadvantages are it'll never shine like a paint job, although it'll shine you'll never get the depth.
Insurance it won't make much difference at all, especially if you are only notifying them of the wrap and not the intention of it being replaced in the event of an accident. Basically if I have a smash I'll have the wrap peeled off prior to repairs so it's noted on my policy that I don't intent to have it re-wrapped after therefore no cost to the insurance in the event of a payout. DVLA don't need to know as the chassis colour remains the same and it's only temporary.
Plenty of colours to pick from, with the vinyl route you can be brave and try things like maybe having a black roof and if you don't like it, no issue to change etc. Overall I've had my wrap a while now pretty pleased. Had a stone glance me on autobahn mighty band and gave my wrap it's first tear, small 3mm mark but the paint underneath was unmarked.
I went for Oyster Pearl, a thicker vinyl, the material is just shy of being twice as thick as a matte or gloss vinyl for added protection.
Before and after as you'll see you still get a nice shine just not quite as much depth
