Just a thought, from the back of the "Brake" thread - what if the powers-that-be created...

PistonHeads Drivers Association (PHDA)

- £25 a year membership (PH is free, £2 a month is virtually nothing)
- With 5000 members that's £125,000. Sponsorship and advertising another £75,000 perhaps.
- Set up as a charity with all the perks (if Brake can do it, why not PHDA?)
- Campaigning for decent, sensible, PH wisdom motoring policy. A pressure group as it were. With speakers and ideas.
- Can draw on the immense resources and knowledge of PH members and PHAD members
- Dedicated policy section for PHDA members only, with voting buttons for democratic and cost efficient decisions.
- It could be fun.
- Haymarket might not like the idea. It may even be a daft idea. It may have been suggested lots of time before.

In short, a practical way to focus all the PH wisdom, energy and sheer love of motoring into a physical entity, funded and resourced, that can make a fuss and do things.

Nope, PH is good because it's free from political campaigning, and all of the bks that goes with it. If you want to get loads of holier than thouugh comittee men involved, you might as well join IAM and knock yourself out.

A "PHDA" or similar will just hand BRAKE a nemesis for them to argue with in public. BRAKE would thump its war drums and encourage public high profile debates, giving them the oxygen of publicity to forward their warped agenda. Far better to simply not engage with them on their own level but rise above the level of their debate by presenting reasoned opinion and fact through established authoritative bodies like IAM, RAC or AA. (Granted, the latter two are now private companies but they carry significant clout.)

In real life as well as on internet forums: Don't feed the trolls.
