Considering selling part built GTR
Discussion
Saddens me to say, but with not enough time or energy to finish my Ultima, I'm considering selling it , as is. Other option is to delay build for a year and then try again.
Appreciate I will take a bath on price, especially after paying for 97% of parts for car, but hey ho.
Will pull together Ad over next week and then put it up in classifieds.
For anyone who has been in this position before, is it worth considering breaking the car, or selling as job lot ? Latter makes a potential bargain for someone considering a new build, especially as decent spec (LS3 , 997 TT box, lots of Autobionics bits etc) , but then again some builders might want to go a different route.
Suppose another option is to be flexible on potential trades ( as long as sporty), to ease transaction for potential buyers ?
Worst comes to worst, I'll do a Keith and take years to build it

Oi!

What are you trying to say Dave! Are you saying I am old and Slow... or just slow!
C'mon old chap.. just sit on it! (not literally of course..) Then wait till you have more time and renewed enthusiasm!
You WILL regret it if you sell!
Come over some time and have a chat and a sniff around my almost UNFINISHED (yet) project! Quite a lot has been achieved this last year since you were up!

Have you thought about getting a specialist to finish it for you - eg, Southways Automotive
It will obviously increase the costs but you get a complete car to drive and enjoy.
If you sell as it is at present you will take a hit (as you know). Likely to be the value of the VAT you paid on the Ultima bits. Not so sure about the AB parts - depends on the buyer wanting those parts too.
Having sold a rolling chassis a few years back I know how hard it is to do.

I decided about 6 or 7 years ago that I was never going to finish my car and put it up for sale. the best offer I received was less than half what I had paid for it (I didn't even pay VAT on it). "Ah yes, but it's second hand" the potential buyer said. T
t, I thought, and decided to keep it.
I ended up using Southways' services, because I still didn't find the time to do it myself. It was and still is a dream to have an Ultima. I know I would be kicking myself now had I sold it. It may be worth thinking about how you'll feel if you do sell it. Buying a 911 or similar would be no consolation for me.
I can also recommend Southways, from what I've seen so far
(I know you'll do it right Steve).

Have you replied to my email?

Oops, no. The Meziere pumps are pretty expensive, aren't they.Steve
I'm really busy at work nowadays, as you know, and I've just had a mail that I need to finish something tonight. Bang goes my planned early night. Are you in work on Saturday for a phone call?

Yes, especially when you see my finished car with all those nice AB bits that you'd be giving up and oh, the noise from that exhaust

Thanks Mark, but I can't see one listed for the LS engines.

Are you using the pump with the "built-in" Idler pulley or the radiator mounted one?Dan

I could perhaps answer for Dan. We do not have a pump yet so are looking at the options. The plan was to put the pump inline down low on the right of the engine bulkhead. Dan has designed a manifold to fit where the mech pump was but this has not yet been manufactured. The Mezier pump fits where the mech pump was to eliminates the need to make a manifold. The downside is that it is rather expensive.
Steve
I fitted an electric pump low down on the right of the engine at the bulkhead but I'm not convinced of its durability (Craig Davies cast metal housing) .Steve
The mezier pump "looks" like it is more robust and I like the idea of retaining the "pump" idler pulley (helps with s/charger belt routing) but the radiator mounted pump looks like a neat solution if the pump idler is a no go.
Sorry Dandare you are correct CSR don't make for LS I was confusing it with their LT1 pump. F.C. I currently have SBC with CSR block mounted pump no stat and Davis Craig controller altering speed of pump and switching fans. It has worked fine for 8000+ miles.
Why would a cast Davis Craig pump be a problem if correctly mounted?

I have no idea really, there is a lot of anecdotal blurb on the net about premature failure of these pumpsWhy would a cast Davis Craig pump be a problem if correctly mounted?

Wow - this thread has gone well off topic!!!!!

Sssshhh! Stig might hear.Paul
I always thought the Davies Craig pumps were ok until I recently heard otherwise, which is why we're looking for an alternative.
I've changed the routing of my belts so I don't need an idler, which is why a remote-mounted pump seems like a good idea. Plus there is the efficiency of the whole system to think about. The standard pump weighs a ton (well, not exactly), an electric one can be controlled to stop hot spots when the motor is turned off (as does Mark's), and basically works when the motor needs it.
@Mark: That's a good enough recommendation for me (your experience of the CSR). I'll just have to see if I can get the remote mounted one. I've just looked and they seem to only have a 3/4" pipe and 140l/min flow rate. I wonder if that's enough. What motor are you using?
@Steve: I'll take the blame.
To get back on topic: Don't sell your car, Dave!

I think Stig fitted one to one of his cars???
I did indeed. It didn't really make any noticable difference to the cooling and, whilst they pump more whilst at idle, I read that it was possible for them to actually restrict flow at higher engine revs as opposed to a traditional belt driven pump that runs at engine speed. It's not something I pursued as other solutions fixed the problem.
