I've no idea what sort of cam there is in my Griff but have sometimes wondered. It had some engine work done by Harrogate a few years ago when it had only done 13k or so and that incl solid lifters, adj push rods, steel rockers, big bore plenum, etc. The invoice doesn't say what cam was fitted (it is described as solid lifter cam) and Harrogate don't have the records for it as now all on the computer so as the valley gasket has just been replaced we were able to see the end of the cam and the casting had on the end "CWC T8" so whilst this might not help maybe someone might be able to say if that means anything re type of cam?

Could be a good suggestion Alex - the good news I didn't mention in the original post is that after about 30+K miles the "new" cam is still looking in excellent nick.
Later - looked for John on the web and can't find him at the moment so has anyone an email address for him?

Thanks for the ref - I did try and see if I could find it and got references to John Eales products but maybe I didn't try enough pages - I thought (clearly incorrectly) that the main site for him would get shown in the first 2/3 pages. I've sent him an email so we'll see if he can help.

Cwc is Campbell Wyatt and Cannon Foundry

They cast that cam, and cast cam blanks for some of the top cam company's in the world

T8 is the grind,

Can't help with that part sorry

Thanks for the various inputs; tha last few posts echo what John Eales said in his reply (really quick from him!) so I'm no nearer - ne'er mind eh! It still goes OK even though I don't know what the cam is!

The cam will have the type etched on the end where the cam chain is.

The types available are generally - M238, M248 and M256 (race cam .. used in the Tuscan challenge).

Probably the M236 would be my guess.

Thanks for the inputs. I've had some very quick replies from John Eales and based on the engine characterisics and when the work was done he thinks it is probably a "mild road tune designated H218". Not too sure what that means performance wise, assume probably not much of an increase, but it is nice to drive.

I doubt it will be as small as 218 with solid lifters

Exactly - it does not make sence.

Just measure the lift with a vernier on the valve spring retainer - mine are all around 0.52" but I do have a big cam.

That's a baby cam, the one I'm ordering up has over 0.6 lift smile

Not for a RV8 you are not .. it would hit the con rods.

I have mates running mopars 440's who have around 0.7" lift.

Huge by RV8 standards.

Must admit I'm puzzled as to why the original owner had the work done in the first place. In addition to the cam, etc. it has big bore plenum but nothing else done induction side - that left a real dogs dinner on the AFM/Plenum hose which was the old corrugated one with an adaptor plate, as well as the other stuff. This was done in early 2000 when the car had 12/13k on it and cost ... over £3k to be done! Maybe there was a cam issue or something but it doesn't really make sense as whilst it will rev fine it does seem quite standard (incl the usual slight hunting at low revs) and it pulls OK from low down with no real sign of it coming on the cam although it does seem to have a bit more go after 3k RPM but suspect that is not unusual anyway.
All a bit of a puzzle!
