Trackdriver magazine?
Discussion
Don't feel too bad - back issues are paid for, international subs are paid for, UK first class posted subs are paid for. Only the UK mail sort edition (paper) and the electronic subs are free.
Next issue goes to press early Dec in time for Christmas and the Autosport show where we will be as usual.
Regards
Stacy
Well I am VERY p'd off, I signed up for this mag in August 2010 never got one. 2011 spoke to Hugh Poston - Advertising at Autosport. He very kindly sent me some copies but hey ho NOTHING ever since and I have posted about this on PH but NO luck even though Stacy Vickers was reading the posts re TD Mag. What really upsets me is that I was a subscriber for years to Circuit Driver Magazine and still have them but I guess Trackdriver do NOT like WOMAN drivers or woman readers, please sort it grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Mrs M, All,
Yes I remember Hugh saying you had accosted him at the Autosport show a couple of years ago regarding the missing free sub. Pleased he sent those magazines off to you.
I'm not sure what you mean by "sort it", but the easiest way really is to visit the website and subscribe. It's usually a pretty reliable system and people don't fail onward validation if they complete the form fully and then don't unsubscribe to the mailings.
It's also almost totally automatic, which everyone will appreciate it needs to be as the majority of TD subscribers are free subscribers. Otherwise a database of that size would consume a lot of valuable time.
Stretched? No more than everyone else, for example Mark has spent several weeks in Australia for the Tasman Revival. So out of interest what email address did you use and have you called him?
Mark, you have mail re: your order. It has been marked as posted. Reply to the email if not, it'll be a lot quicker as I have limited time to keep up with forums. Even ones as august as this.
All the best,
Stacy

Thanks George/Gregor. Glad to hear it's still doing it's thing. Some really exciting things coming through for issue after next too.
Don't forget to respond to the subscription renewal email and get onto www.trackdriver.com if your sub is an old one - while deadline for re-subscription was technically midnight yesterday, in truth we are holding it open until Sunday night as subs are still coming through thick and fast. It will press on Monday though so we can't hold it beyond that.
Which brings me back to Mrs M's complaint. I did some digging.
It transpires that you were added to the database manually from the handwritten yellow sticky that Hugh wrote out at the show back in 2010, when you stopped him while wandering around in his TrackDriver jacket and expressed displeasure at not being on the mailing list. He also posted you the back issues at no cost as a goodwill gesture, while usually they are charged for. Subsequently the record was automatically culled as, fairly obviously, it did not contain the minimum amount of additional data required to qualify for the free subscription, the details of which are documented on the website. I hope that explains how the situation came about.
As I said, the free subscription database has now been made almost totally automatic. It has to be as there is a common sense limit to how hard the team should work to ensure people get their free sub. It is open to all who follow the process and appear from the data we have to be entitled to a free copy.
Stacy
Got the back issue I ordered last week. Blimey it's quality, especially as it's free (the subscription, not the back issue). Looking forward to receiving my regular issues now. I think it's wonderful that it's a free subscription. I know it must be hard work getting the supporting revenue in from advertisers in order to keep it going (I do a similar thing in one of my businesses), but well done and keep going as it is great reference material. Thank you Stacy!

We are all stretched, healthily so, for example Mark has spent several weeks in Australia for the Tasman Revival. That said we do usually get round to all the comms - (which is a lot) - so out of interest what email address did you use?

As posted I did sign up in the Summer of 2010. On Tuesday 28th December 20I0 I posted on the PH Trackday forum, thread title, Circuit Driver/Trackdriver Magazine that I had not received any copies. You asked me to email over my details to subs@trackdriver.com ie full name, address and postcode which I did and on Wednesday 29th December 2010 I confirmed on the thread I had emailed my details to them and thanked you.
I gave my details to Hugh at Autosport 2011 as a belt and braces exercise to ensure I was on the mailing list.
I am sure you can understand my frustration having signed up twice and in 2 years only received issue nos 1-4.
So now, do I sign up for a 3rd time??????
Regards.

What happened to John Hayman? He was always good at the admin aspects. I havent seen any contributions from him for some time and had wondered why the mag was so late coming out and some of the articles I have seen recently seem several years old; i am sure I read one of Mark Hales' ones in another mag. A few years ago. But as its a free mag I can't complain really

Appreciate the support guys, thanks. I will pass it on to the team and will also ask Martin when the back issue app upgrade is due, I do know he's been working on it.
John was great as the 24hr engine room (he never slept as far as I could tell) and certainly kept us all in check, but he only took TD on as launch editor to get it off the ground and two years is a launch by anyone's standards, so somewhat deserved a break to get his life back.
However John didn't deal with back issue orders, Hugh did that and he was taken ill a few months ago. He's back on light duties now though, and having checked I don't believe anyone is missing an ordered copy.
I'm afraid I'm not sure where your "so late" comment was borne from. The magazine is bi-monthly and according to my print schedule was one week late 3 months ago, when the guys transitioned from one art designer and software to another. Hence the smarter new look. There is another issue sat in the Christmas post as I type, and has been for a while sadly.
The use of library articles is certainly not new to TD as John made use of them too, nor is it specific to TD, but I'd ask the question; was it /exactly/ the same? And was it any good..? Occasionally the mag is let down for a feature, and has a space to fill. Most recently, and presumably this is what you were referring to, I know this was because the factory supplied car was smashed up the day before the test by a driver from another publication, and that a little under a week to press day.. That left the team with a nice problem and a good feature scans rather better than "this page intentionally left blank" does it not.
Anyway, my involvement is primarily the database and writing the odd scrap when asked, so complaints there fall to me.
In that vein Mrs M, sorry, but yes you do need to register again. As we ask free subs people to refresh their subs regularly you will need to again at some point after that too..
To keep your free sub from 2010 to 2013 you would have likely had to renew 3 or even 4 times. You can, if you wish, avoid this repeated inconvenience and intrusion by subscribing at this link rather than the free sub page;

Oh bugger off. Just sign up on the web. You can call yourself queen edward, it'll still turn up. I don't believe for 1 second there is a department at track driver filtering women out of their database...Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

cks, just realised that. And I've just spent £6.50 on a back issue. Attention to detail
Thank you!
