I may in the near future have to move a range rover from Bristol to Leicester.
Anyone recomend me a company that can do this or hire me a truck to do it my self?

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but can't you drive it?

If he could drive it, I doubt he would be asking?

DJ Tallis in Burbage used to hire out transits with a flat bed, not sure if they still do. If you want it moving speak to Pro Driver in Wigston, a fellow PH'ers company.

Shiply: http://www.shiply.com/

Enter your details, sit back and wait for quotes to roll in.

I enquired about moving a 7 series BMW from the north of Scotland down to London - the best quotes came in sub-£300.

I've used this place before to move a car from Reading to Leicester. Worked out around £160 if I remember correct.

Used Shiply a few years ago - pretty good, but check the commission that they take, it's quite a bit now IIRC.

Cheapest way is to join a breakdown club (AA, RAC, Greenflag, etc), tell them your vehicle has broken down with a terminal engine or gearbox failure and needs transporter recovery to your desired destination....and you get a whole years breakdown cover too idea
Did consider this as I'm with the aa and have been for years but I don't think they would believe me in this case as its not moved in over a year and it not taxed or mot'd

If it's a late Rangie be aware that they are too heavy for most 7.5 ton recovery trucks.

My point was, it's often just as cheap to get day insurance + tax it, then get the money back on the tax. Assuming the car runs, and has an MOT of course.

they move them on car trailers i,m certainly sure they fit on a 7.5 tonner mate
most revoery trucks (7.5 ton) weigh no more than 3.5 and trust me a range rover l322 dont weigh in @ 4 ton!

AA recovered my L322 the other week on a 7.5 tonner so definitely not impossible.

Most 7.5T can only carry 2.8 tons LESS the weight of the conversion passengers etc

Hence stuff weighing over 2.5 tons gets borderline.

I know this as I know of several drivers who have been prosecuted and won't move Rangies any more.

Nonsense. I run a few 7.5 ton car transporters. They weigh between 4,150 and 4,300 unladen with a driver. That's for a 2006, 2007 and 2009 MAN TGL respectively.
