We had one Landy last year along with 8 bags of grit after the chaos of the year before. Not a bleeding flake of snow....

This year we've still go (the same) 8 bags of grit and now 2 Landys so there is feck all chance of snow around here this year...smile

Might get some flood water usage tomorrow looking at the forecast but otherwise it's not a bad insurance policy against bad weather!

Haha, I thought the same when I bought my Disco 4 - I put General Grabber AT's on it and when it did snow it was unstoppable! Didn't even hint at slipping on any of the Chiltern Hills I went up and down.

Last winter I had the Evoque and that too was fine but there was little snow to test it.

Now I have a RRS and it has stupid Continental summer tyres that are 100% road biased so, actually, I'm not looking forward to using it in snow this winter! I don't want to get new rubber on it because I'll likely only keep it a year or so with the new model coming out for late 2013/14.

The gearbox should still make it incredibly capable.

Aye, for moving off I think it'll be fine given that it is identical to the D4 platform but it's stopping with rubbish tyres that worries me.

I've read loads of reports that the Conti tyres are awful on ice and wet grass.

Just about to put the winter tyres on the Range Rover & I've bought some new wellies so that should pretty much guarantee some kind of tropical winter!

Agreed - see so many 4x4 accidents round here as rubbish tyres and not realising that 4 wheel drive doesn't help downhill stamping on brakes.

Not quite right although tyres do make a difference. The D4 has Hill Descent Control which, effectively, uses the ABS sensors to brake wheels with grip. It is remarkably effective in 1st gear in Low Range and is a big advantage over a normal car without it when going downhill on snow.

Yep know how the d3/4 system works, still doesn't stop accidents with nervous or poor drivers. I find I can't always use itas there'll be someone up my chuff who thinks that they can defy physics.

Hey I'm just replying to the chap who said that stamping on the brakes won't work. I knew what he meant but there is a very effective way of using the brakes in these cars which, as you say, used with the correct tyres will help a lot if people are educated enough about it to use it.

it's all down to the high-level prevailing easterly/westerley wind systems that cover the globe - if they are further south for any reason then the void is replaced by cold air which moves down from the Arctic - as happened 3 years ago.

A little bird tells me to expect the same phenomenon this year...........................

Which would be good to satisfy the "I've got a Landy give me snow" urge but bad as I've just taken a job with a 34 mile each way commute on either exposed A roads, or less exposed country lanes - that's going to be fun in a Series 3!
