Does anyone know whether there is a make/model of digital scales that shows portions or recommended serving sizes?

I’m after one for my mother who's trying to lose weight, eats reasonably healthy in terms of the nature of her cooking, but has real problems in the amount she cooks and eats. She's old and not savvy enough to be able to keep track of calorie count, daily recommended fat/carb/protein amounts etc, so the plethora of digital scales I've found that give that info alone aren't really good enough.

I figure that there may not be such a thing because a serving size or a single portion will vary in weight depending on what it’s being used for, figured it would be worth a shot. I thought it would be good in that it would show her just how ridiculous her portioning is in a way that me telling her that each plate is probably three human sized meals just doesn't.

Have you looked at Weightwatchers? You only need to go to one meeting to get setup with your points allowance, although the meetings are very useful. You can also buy a set of scales that will give you a points value of the food which you then subtract from a daily allowance. This is far easier than keeping track of calories, fat, protein and carbs. I started in January with my wife and have lost 6.5 stone so far.

Best thing I could recommend would be the app from MyFittnessPal. It includes a barcode scanner. So you point your phone at the barcode and it scans it, and then you weigh your portion and tell the app how much your portion weighed. It then records the calories for you.
