Big news and good for F1 in general

The Coca-Cola Company has confirmed it will sponsor the Lotus Formula 1 team through its Burn brand

Burn will join an F1 grid that features increasing amounts of energy drink sponsorship by companies such as Red Bull, TNT and Monster.

"We are proud that The Coca-Cola Company [via Burn] has chosen Lotus F1 Team as the best vehicle to represent the burn brand in its most high profile partnership," said team boss Eric Boullier.

"We are excited to partner with burn to build a new and innovative model for sponsorships that will combine experiences, content creation and social media."

Burn said in a statement that it plans to incorporate "art and music in a way that will break the conventions of traditional F1 sponsorship".

The team said details of the sponsorship will be revealed in 2013 when the partnership officially launches.

always thought a coke sponsored car would look great, shame this isn't going to happen. (using the actual coke brand I mean). Remember the Porsche 935 in coke colours?

Bobby Rahal bending the valves setting a super fast lap at Silverstone (not the pic above I know)

It's great for F1 - Alot of these huge international brands wouldn't get involved because of the tobacco and booze sponsorship. I guess Lotus will be dropping the JPS colour scheme for next year wink

Amazing - remember the rumours that the team was to be sold this Autumn?....I have no doubt that Raikkonen's decision to re-sign for another year was a big driver for that deal being closed...glad to see team Enstone on a good footing.

They can still keep the black & gold if they went down the Coke Zero sponsor colours route.

Another Porsche that raced with Coke livery was the 962, although it has a hint of the current Marussia scheme nowadays

Not sure having the word ZERO writ large on the car is that good from a marketing point of view. Or indeed for Grosjean's confidence. That said, as noted, "Burn" does seem to be temping fate a touch.

Interesting to see the energy drink money coming into F1 after NASCAR and the whole X-Games arena. Do wonder if many of these brands are closing the stable door after the horse has bolted?

I thought Coca Cola were supposed to be taking over Vodaones sponsorship of Mclaren as they're pulling out this year. The Lotus cars should look good in the Burn colours though.

Presumably this Burn stuff is a new product? Can't say that I'd even heard of it before reading this thread.

False rumour as Mclaren have a deal with Glaxo who have their own range of drinks.

Yep, the vodafone pull out is nothing more than a rumour either. Sensible journalists rubbished the Coca Cola / McLaren tie up very quickly due to the McLaren being plastered in Lucozade stickers as a result of the GSK partnership.

Who owns Monster? I havent noticed much sponsorship from them in F1? I know it would never happen for reasons mentioned above but Monster Mclaren Mercedes has a ring to it!
