Ok. Probably still dreaming here, but this is looking vaguely possible given my impending house move (assuming I can find a garage wide enough)...

Anyone know this car, the people selling it or anything else useful?

Obviously stick to the forum rules here, if you've got something negative to say drop me a private mail.
Cheers,
Rich

According to a search of the archives they seem pretty reasonable to look after as long as you use a decent independent and don't do billions of miles.

Reading Jethros drive of the anniversary still at the factory in Moderna yesterday in evo 69. NExt step is a sit in test - being over 6ft there sa good chance the whole crazy idea will end right there...

I like. Lots. Seen that one for sale for some time even though the price seems quite reasonable.

Rich, you bastard.

If this car is on a JAZ number plate, it has been for sale for ages. Prior to entering the dealer network it was for sale privately at £29,995
Caveat emptor !

The Countach is possibly my favourite car ever (it's always a hard choice...)

I think it is still the definitive supercar, it remains the car that was the biggest step forward in its day of any similar car.

My personal preference is for a 5000s QV, I'm told the 88.5 is the one to go for. I kinda think that Horacio et al went a little over the top on the 25th Anni, but there again I'd buy this car in an instant ....

I believe that the owners club is a good place to go in order to find out the history.
I'm under the impression that with a car like this history is everything, and a good one that is properly looked after can be pretty reliable if used correctly.

Oh - and black..... looks like a stealth fighter - cool !

If you are a tall bloke the anniversary can be a problem. It has electric seats and they often do not work very well - either not going back all the way or not moving at all. The result is that the car is a major squeeze.

The slightly older Countachs' have different seats and offer a little more room for 6' tall chunky Brits.

But its still a tight squeeze..

erm...without wanting to be a killjoy....

they look and sound cool but are neither very fast (a Focus RS, Alfa GTA etc will butcher you) or very good to drive. They are a HUGE event to play with - especially if you get an earlier model with the whole pump start routine (totally unstealable car!)...but they really do feel as old as they are...

looks utterly beautiful though and was the piccy on my wall when I was small!

sorry to sound ngative...

Beg to differ.

The one I drove was fearsomely fast and made a noise like you would not believe. There's a chuffing big V12 there you know - just behind your head !

And with respect, the QV onwards had more than 440 bhp. So lets not mention hatchbacks in the same breath...

well okay...the later models were a lot quicker....but the power is massively blunted by the weight. My opinion only (so accept its probably wrong!!) They really ARENT that fast.

Oh - and re: hatchbacks. remember having a conversation Domster at some point about this - our general consensus being that you need to NAIL even a really powerful car (and we both own one or two) to stay realistically ahead....the world has moved on considerably since the time of the Countach.

Not saying they aint great though!

Night, I'm sure you're not so wrong - earlier cars with 350 odd hp and all that weight would struggle. I would guess that in anything apart form perfect road conditions too you're going to get beaten up by the Subarishi brigade too.

Going by the driving impressions of Mr Bovingdon in EVO - driving an anniversary (455bhp) it's pretty bloody fast - and damn hard work!! As you say though, it's more about the drama and (frankly) the noise. I'm sure on a wet thrusday night a focus RS is going to run rings round you, but in the dry on an open road not much is going to live with that kind of thump.

Perhaps I should put the whole thing off for a few years and keep saving the wedge for a good Diablo - they're obviously going to be a much more rewarding drive. Thing is the Countach is always going to be an icon for me - I have to at least drive one........

hey dont get me wrong - I think the Countach is great and youll love it.

I should have clarified what I said re: speed. My diablo also gets given a merry run on most roads by any other fast car.... everything these days which purports to be sporty has ample power and is genuinely quick. Being quicker is a relative thing...and Id say that its less of a gap then ever before....whatever you own pretty much...

Drive wise...my view

Gallardo - very fast, slightly intimidating, not frustrating
Mucrielago - extremely fast, fairly intimidating, rarely frustrating
Diablo - extremely fast, intimidating, frustrating on occaision
Countach - fast/very fust, very intimidating, frustrating quite often (unless you're lucky and live nowhere with v narrow roads, and speedbumps)

very rough view.....Countach often more of a rewarding drive than any of the others or all added together...you just need to be aware (again IMO) that it will often frustrate as well
