Serious question lads please not jokes smile Cat's doing my head in! Keeps jumping up on my car (which is black) and leaves muddy paw marks all over the bonnet and some scratches too furious

Apart from the usual - kick it, kill it, whack it and water bomb it is there anything serious I can do apart from getting a car cover?

Is there something cat's don't like that would keep it away?

I would talk to the owners but there are 4 houses in the cul de sac with cats and I have no idea which cat sits on it as the car is under a car port and I can't see it from inside my house - I just find the paw marks on my car when I go out.

You can buy soft plastic airgun pellets that sting but don't actually injure. Either that or get a bigger, meaner territorial moggy of your own.

I had this problem a few years back and gave up in the end. I tried:

- cat repellent tablets
- lemon scent
- half full bottles of water

....none of which worked.

You can buy "tiger st" which claims to work and those electronic devices but I never tried those. Do an eBay search for ideas.

Good luck!

Lure the cat into your car, drive approximately 20 miles, drop cat off at a nice posh area of town where his new owners will feed him fresh chicken every day.

You can't. Instead, you have to accept that you can't control everything in your life. It boils my piss, too.

Honestly I think there's little you could do. Also cats can roam quite far so it might not even be from one of the houses near by, not that talking to the owners would make any difference anyhow - I mean what exactly would you expect them to be able to do anyhow?

Seriously and without joking, if it's a real issue consider moving to somewhere with a garage or no neighbours. Either that or think about fitting some sort of doors to your car port or build a garage.

buy some cheap 'motion detection' water sprinklers that normal people buy at BBQ for their gardens.

sellotape them to the roof of your car.

remember to take them off when you drive your car in the mornings

Had the same issue with my old Merc which was also black. Biggest problem though was that because the car was so highly polished, the cat would jump on the bonnet and slide straight off. During this slide it would try to 'dig in' with its claws and leave ruddy big scratches all down the bonnet.

Last time it happened I shouted at the top of my voice "i'm going to kill that f*(^&^ing cat". Of course my neighbours were in the garden...sigh

Garage will be built in 2013 once my planning approval comes through - we are having an extension etc but this was about what to do in the short term as it's been happening for some time now. Before this I had a black 6 series convertible but the cat never sat on it - must be something to do with the cat attracting the cat ! biggrin

They do like a warm bonnet/hood - nothing you can do. Even if you could scare one off, another will take it's place.

The cats around my area wait until I've cleaned it too - they like a warm CLEAN car just as much (cheeky little sods).

Such is life!

Been there, done that.

Cheap car covers will marr(sp?) the paint after a while of blowing about in the wind.

Expensive car covers with furry insides will pick up grit from your driveway when you inevitably drop the cover while taking it off or putting it on.

I had this problem back when I had my 5 series. The neighbors beautiful cat would leave terrible scratches on the bonnet as he was looking for a warm place to curl up

As a pet lover I couldnt be angry but It was indeed difficult

I decided to leave it, and they were all small enough to buff out when I came to sell it

My cat keeps getting in my neighbours cars. She nearly ended up in Bolton last week...

I wouldn't recommend a BB gun. You may know it's harmless because you've been careful, but your neighbour doesn't.

Decent wax coat to try and protect against the scratches perhaps?
