I have asked about this a few months back but I am still unable to find a solution so I am here to pick your combined brains again.

Driving along with the drivers window partly open it suddenly closes all by itself. Open it again and the same things happens at random intervals.

Park the car, ignition off, alarm off, unlocked and the window self closes again, but with an added extra. If the passenger window is open at the same time they BOTH self close simultaneously. So bang goes the theory that it is just a dodgy switch unless they are both dodgy at the exact same time, every time!

Now comes the rub.....park it with the drivers door open and the windows do NOT self close!

TVR electrics don't you love them.

Sounds like you need to determine what Alarm you have, nothing else on the Chim closes windows for you, unlike the T cars?? Then I suggest you call Carl Baker, the TVR Alarm specialist

It is a standard 1999 Chim 500 with a factory standard Meta. I didn't think that the alarm also has a window closing element to it. We have never noticed it in the two and a half years we have owned the Chim.

You are the envy of probably 1/3 of the owners on here, that always wished they had this 'feature'.
Stop complaining! hehe

Its a great feature, if you want to drive with your windows down then you have to open the door!!

My old Griff had a switch (close to your left knee) that would close both windows all the way if you pressed it once - might be worth checking to see if you have this button?
If you do have one then there could be a problem with it, or maybe you're just touching it with your knee by accident?

Do you have the (optional extra) switch between the window switches? (This comes with the feature of windows closing on door lock/alarm set.)

Was thinking something rattling around in that area might be triggering the switch.

Sounds like someone has added a window closer relay to whatever alarm your car has fitted and it is on its way out.

Only it isn't operated by a switch and is an option you can add to any existing or new alarm installation wink

The point I was trying to make is that if the OP looks for a switch and doesn't find one he could assume there isn't one on his car - make sense?

A big button between t'other two. That's why I wondered if OP had something rattling around in that area that activates the button. (It's very sensitive, and happens to me periodically)

OK, thanks to everyone for their suggestions, that is what the forum is for.

No additional buttons or switches that I can find. I put the car to bed this evening, doors closed, alarm off, unlocked leaving the drivers door window down by a couple of inches (5 mm for our European friends). The window is still down four hours later. I could check it later and find differently.

What is getting me is the totally random nature of the problem regardless of whether the car is being driven or left totally by itself on the driveway. I can't believe it is operating as TVR intended and is pointing towards an electrical issue. I have a Griffith wiring diagram to hand and although it may not be the same for the Chim TVR did not wander too far from model to model. There is one common earth point for both window switches that could be worth looking at. But why the door being open affects this needs further consideration.

Think you are right with the cable fault, but think the car will have been fitted with a module onto the alarm to close the windows, just tried to find my Meta alarm book, but as with all these thing you can never find things when you need them,
Found this on line that says the Meta alarm can close the windows
http://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/alarmshop/index.p...

I think most of these devices they have to have a load sensor on them so if you can get it to operate try slowing the window down and see if it stops, thinking about it that may not tell you much as mine is so slow I think a feather would stop ithehe

Any alarm can close windows if you fit a window closure module, they are no longer alarm specific as back in the day, you can get universal ones nowadays.
