Car's in News Headlines

I used to think news articles about road accidents/deaths couldn't name the manufacturer of a vehicle involved, or at least had to be careful whilst editing a story in case it was misinterpreted that the vehicle was the cause of the accident/death and the manufacturer sued for liable.
But I've started noticing articles involving 4x4's and accidents/deaths are different
The vehicle whether it be a Toyota, Mitsubishi, Jeep etc is usually referred to as 'The 4x4 involved'... Unless its a LAND ROVER in which case they say 'The Land Rover involved' usually giving the 'model' as well
Why does this manufacturer nearly all ways seem to be singled out?
