In a manual I would say you would get mid 30's as an average

Ah not as good as I'd hoped for then, combined is shown as 48mpg I think so was hoping to be able to crack 45 on a slow motorway run.

Might just get a cooper, or a cooper sd.

Depends which model, R53 or R56

Our R56 (11 reg) currently averaging 42mpg (measure brim to brim, not using OBC)

New version, I guess r56. 42Mpg not bad, the more I look at the diesel version the more tempted I am as not after a quick car really just want a smart car to run about in.

SD would be the way forward, more torque than the JCW and easy to average 45mpg without even remotely trying.

After a track-day (where I achieved a total of 9.6mpg in my R56 Cooper S), a very slow run back from Silverstone in 50-70mph traffic saw a return of 48.9mpg, running Climate, Lights, Heated Seats etc.

Normal run at 85mph would see 36-38.
