Just watching an old episode of Outnumbered and Murray Walker got mentioned, made me feel sad he isn't still commentating as much, sure his commentary was/is a bit wonky at times but the man defined the sound of motorsport for decades, as much as any engine type did. The man is a living legend.
I dont watch as much motorsport these days and an wondering how much it is down to missing that voice, he is 89 now, and seems to be in rude health and still doing the odd gig, but shall we let him know our appreciation anyway ?

When I saw this thread I thought "oh no he's passed away".
Having read his autobiography I think the bloke is a highly intelligent & someone is love to share a pint with, which is strange as back in the early 90's one of the main reasons for dad getting sattalite tv fitted was so we could get eurosport & not put up with his terrible commentary!

Good intentions, good thread, great guy! I really hope he knows how much people like him. Even here in Schumacherland he's adored among the cognoscenti.Murray was the sound of my childhood. I remember being woken at 2 in the morning the watch Damon Hill win in Suzuka in '96 as a 7 year old. Great great memories. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFsD9NElDa4 gives me goosbumps every time
We have been very fortunate to have Murray guest at 3 Nostalgia Forum film shows over the past 2 years and he has lost nothing. He's nearly 90 and apart from his hips slowing him up a little he is the man he was a decade ago. The voice, the memory, it is all still there. He truly is a national treasure and every time we are honoured to have his company we feel we can listen to him alll day, sod the films!
The sheer unbridled unfettered pure boundless enthusiasm for Motor Sport in all it forms is a joy to behold. The encyclopaedic knowledge and genuine experience of Motor cycle racing at World class levels was probably equalled only by Dennis Jenkinson many years ago.
Murray Walker is a legend in his own tine. Few achieve that. Even fewer are also very generous and gregarious individual with immense personal charm. A real English Gent.

Watched a "Legends" interview with him on sky f1 the other night - Georgie was interviewing him. At the very end, with a twinkle in his eye, he asks her if they can swap trousers.... the old rogue! Very funny.
Have never read, or heard, a bad word about him anywhere. His autobiography makes very interesting reading.
