Just a silly question but is it normal for the Stack gauge to get pretty warm? I noticed mine heats up a bit and the inside of the lens will mist up near the edge of the display. Just curious.
Thanks!

Thanks. I noticed this when the air ambient temp was about 37 deg. C outside and the humidity levels were real high. No rain. Heat index was blazing real high probably in the mid 40's. In all fairness it could have been the sun cooking up the dash. I'll check it again when its a little cooler like you guys experience across the pond.
Glad to hear your still having fun with the car Steve.
How's the motor turning out for you?
Cheers!

You'd better move up here to 22'C country.
Your Stack will never get hot!!
BTW, have never noticed any heat coming from mine.
The only real problem I've had is at night when the glare fron the digital display lowers your night vision a bit.

Motors fine but still trying to track and fix an oil leak and still not stopped it stalling under braking. I know, fit FI.

Steve, Pete knows how to do it, it only takes about 15 mins. Seeing as he dyno'd your engine I would give him a call.

As for FI, it has to be Kinsler

Thanks guys! I'll check it in cooler weather. Jack, I need to get up there to see you and that cool weather. Working on a car on hot summer days is the pits! I finally got a little relief with some rain and temps in the low 80's F. Also, forgot to wish you luck on the next car show. Wish I were up there to help vaccum and polish. I'll bring the mini mirrors! ha.
Steve, USCANAM and I can relate with the oil leaks. We both have them. Mine isn't real bad yet, but I did track down mine to a bad front oil pan seal. There are two different front seals to use and I'm sure I must have used the wrong one! Ha. The older Chevy's always leak a little. Glad your enjoying the car. FI would be a solution to your stalling and give you a little better part throttle. Keep your accusump on. My car bogs down under heavy braking without it switched on. You don't have to go with anything as crazy as a kinsler FI. You could always do a Holley Commander 950. Ton of support now for that EFI with a lot of data files to help you get started. They now do a wide band 02 also. Steve, weren't you running a 400 block? I don't know why I thought that.
GTRclive, how's the mini project?
Cheers!

Thanks for the good wishes. The invitation is always open for you.
Still have the oil leak. Starting to think it might be the pan seal. Have bought the stuff to put in the oil and the black light, but haven't got around to doing it. Since it won't leak when just sitting there idling, we're thinking about raising the back end and seeing if that will cause the leak to appear. Have to make sure it will still pump oil in that position.

This new real estate startup has kept me pretty busy Jack. Would love to come up for a visit when I get some time off. With my front oil pan seal, Jack, I found the leak by jacking up the back. I didn't run the car, though, I just left it like that overnight. You can run the engine with the back jacked up. This is usually how we bleed the cooling system. It will lose pressure and die if its inclined too much, around a 45 deg. angle. You have a lot of room to work with. Also, look at the bottom of you water pump. Mine was covered in sludge. My leak isn't real bad...yet...but I'm going to pull the motor out this fall anyway to have a look at this and cleanup the back.

Steve_D, one of our local chevy magazines just did an article on building a 650hp 400 c.i. motor. I think they ran a shot of nitrous though. Those are pretty stout production blocks.
Cheers!

The STACK in mine used to mist up, long journeys were the worst... I complained to stack and they said it was a fault that they fixed in newer units by fitting silica (or whatever it is) to absord the moisture.

To retro fit costs 90quid.... I coverted to a white facia as I decided I prefered it to the black one I bought so it was worth the money (cost nearly 300quid in the end though).

never misted up since.
