But as usual, the gormless bints driving in high heels whilst applying makeup continue to think men cause all the accidents. And dont get me started on the amount of those little yappy dogs sitting on passenger seats that I see

People trying to drive and caring more about the fag they are smoking pisses me off the most.

"Twenty per cent of those surveyed admitted they had crashed or had a near miss after a discarded coffee cup or empty drink bottle rolled under their brake pedal."

Where were they doing this survey?

That was quick. Normally takes about half a page before someone wrongly starts on the perils of smoking.

Wrongly? It's a fair point in my experience.

"Automatic gearbox"

See it almost daily with people clearly in an automatic that think because they don't have to change gear means they can drive on the phone or playing with their hair etc. etc.

All of the above, to which I'd add: a spare gallon of petrol in a can in the passenger compartment eg hatchbacks - carried 'just in case'. 140MJ waiting for an excuse to really spoil your day.

Seeing people failing to steer properly, dropping the fag in the car, faffing about lighting fags while driving thus failing to concentrate on the driving.

My father smoked in the car and was bloody useless half the time. See it plenty on the roads too. Granted some will function perfectly well and be able to balance the challenges but many can't.

I think that makes it a fair point.

I respectfully disagree. You'll also observe many driving badly who aren't smoking, there are no statistics to back up the belief that smoking is any more likely to cause accidents above any other activity people may do in their car. There is the driving without due care & attention laws to cover those who can't use both hands simultaneously while driving, whatever they maybe trying to do.

Bullst. No different to changing the radio station, arguing with the Mrs, eating a snickers or drinking a coffee.

I know someone who did just that... and then one day he lit a cigarette...

Cost him several fingers, a lot of skin, and a long stay in hospital.

You asked for my experience, I shared it.

At no point have I denied other distractions are equally dangerous.

I smoked for about 30 years of my driving life, rolled up cigs as I was driving or riding. Got ill, gave up fags. Spent the last four years not smoking. Still haven't crashed due to smoking. Thinking of taking up texting.

I asked because you may have been a rapid response person or similar so may of had experience from that perspective, but fair enough. smile
