Dad offered to buy me a newer car when i get my years no claims in march.

Live in the uk so insurance is a pain.

Been quoted £1000 insurance at 18 with 1 years no claims on a clk.

Would a £5000 clk from 04/05 be decent run about for college/uni.

The 1.8 version due to insurance.

probably no more expensive to run than a 2004 car, quite a bit cooler plus your dad will have more money to lend you for other things......

Got a 03 diesel ford focus atm so nothing special - dodgy turbo etc atm. Not worth while to fix it.

I dont live with my dad as he moved away to america so it would be like a 1 off gift - was going to be my 18th present but the insurance was still to much.
So he offered to buy me a new car when i get my years no claims.

Are we talking auto or manual? If it's the latter then i would look for something else (late BMW E46 318Ci 2.0, probably?). If it's an auto then either two things will happen you'll get bored of it or you'll end up liking autos at a young age. I know about it, it happened to me!

Most on here will tell you to get a sensible car like another Focus etc due to your age. I would say go for it, as generally the CLK is reliable. Just check service history and research costs of parts and maintenance before you buy.

A 1.8 isnt realy going to be breaking sound barriers.

Citroen c2s etc have a close to same 0-60.

Pretty cheap to run unless something drastic goes wrong then?
